So.......

Guns are objects that require other objects to work. Drugs just need you.

You contradicted yourself.

Over the years I've slowly moved from anti-gun to defending gun use.

On the one hand I dislike guns - yes crime is always going to happen, but standing back and pulling a trigger is easier and more detached from the victim than using ones fists or even another dangerous weapon like knives...it's more mindless, and obviously in the case of certain guns it's far easier for some nut job to walk into a school or workplace and shoot a bunch of people before anyone can stop them.

On the other hand I'd not want to deny anyone their right to have a gun - the majority of gun owners use their guns appropriately. In the case of the US I don't think a ban would ever work, guns are too much a part of the culture, I'd even go so far as to say that if guns were banned tomorrow you'd probably see the number of guns on the street increase as people would rebel. Outright bans just don't work.

Not exactly sure what America could do to make their country safer with guns - ban is a no, restricting who can get a gun wouldn't really work, increased gun safety and gun awareness is great but ultimately won't stop mass shootings or criminals using guns, I don't agree at all with the idea of teachers or others in schools carrying guns...the answer has to be about people rather than guns, and there's no quick fix.

BS Kato (thats who you remind me of! Kato Kaelin, OJ's houseguest who is now a gameshow host). The US was founded on rebellion. We will not ever hand over our weapons. Many of us (not me) think that once we do, monarchy or dictatorship is on it's way in. No freaking way is it a good idea. I'm NOT a gun nut, but I know many.

The last time I got mugged, way back when I lived in Bham, about 12 years back, I bit the dudes ear, bad. I went all Mike Tyson on him that way cause I can't any other way. I won. He did not have a gun.

The only way to fight back with a person who has a gun is with a gun. Bottom line.

Yep, it can work. The very country that attacked the USA just over 70 years ago this month and drew us into one of the worst conflicts the world has ever know....now has no gun sickness like the USA does today. They even experienced nuclear war.

In 2008, when the United States experienced over 12,000 gun-related homicides, Japan had only 11.

Compared to 40,000 fatal car accidents per year.

Don't say you were not warned when all of your civil liberties are eroded by a government that is getting closer to being a dictatorship every year.

Freedom comes out of the barrel of a gun, and apathy by following the flock gets you a dictatorship.

ban guns, legalize drugs? lol

I dont agree with the logic that you would not be attacked if you have a gun. How bad a shot are they? A head shot is game over, i dont see how having a gun on my protects me from a cheap shot. Also I think its unnerving that everyone does have a gun.

Considering guns are only 500 years old, what then was Athenian and Greek societies?

Admit it, you want the gun.

Japan's culture is waaaaaaaaaay different than Western culture. For example, they pick up after themselves. Millions of Americans can't be bothered to walk 20 ft to throwaway their garbage. Japan and the US are like apples and oranges.

Guns are ingrained into our culture. It built it. Taking away our guns is asking for trouble, especially when our government becomes more and more corrupt. PM is right. Sadly, the politicians in D.C. see the Bill of Rights more as guidelines than actual rules.

I'll admit that i'm not going to be apathetic and lose the one right that guarantees all of the others.

Swords, bows, and fire mate.

Your best gun against their guns, tanks, missiles, jets, aircraft carriers and such?

 Do you know how many times I have heard that?

If you don't like the fact that the gun is ingrained in American culture, move to a place where it is not.

That would be running away.

Hatred against people with a dark skin tone was and still is ingrained in American culture...shall that struggle have never began?

Here's my point. The "tyrant" knows what guns are, and how to defeat them. The "tyrant" wrote the book on it, so time to throw that book away.
