How the mighty have fallen.

Of course, i'm not blaming the average officer, the administration is to blame for this fiasco. Most cops want you to be armed, it makes their job easier.

The most recent LAPD chief used to b***h endlessly to the media about claims that legal gun owners were the cause of crime...until a couple low level cartel stooges stole 18 MP5 machine guns and 18 very high end .45 automatics from a SWAT training facility and they ended up Mexico.

He's still not wrong - As soon as those weapons were stolen they weren't legally owned by those who possessed them, right?

We had an elementary school kid out here a couple weeks ago who brought a handgun to school "for protection". He got expelled for it. I think nothing at all should have happened to the kid for his behavior - nothing more than a 15 minute chat with a psychiatrist at the most.

But his parents should be flogged in public for leaving handguns around where their kid can get them.

Depends on the law. If the law uses the term "easy access" and the parents made the gun not so easy to access yet still possible to access then they are guilty of nothing. It's impossible to make a gun totally inaccessible. Technically even a safe can be cracked...........possibly.

In my opinion and that of others it's better to teach safety, responsibility, and accountability about guns instead of trying to hide them. When I was a kid we only had a few guns around the house for hunting. Nothing exiting but still deadly weapons just the same. My old man (more socially liberal than conservative) still believed in the value of ass whuppins and even said he'd take me to jail and lock me up himself if I did anything illegal with one of our few guns. I took him at his word and never came close to doing anything like taking a gun to school or anywhere else for that matter.

Kids are morons. This moron kid thought there was a good chance he'd get shot at at school or something, so he came packing.

He's a stupid kid. Can't be held responsible for doing something stupid. His parents can, though.

I was a stupid moronic kid, too.
I still am. :P
That aside I still had a healthy fear of the consequences.
