^ Agreed. It's difficult to work out what it is we're supposedly being protected from and who decided it was necessary in the first place.

i think that censorship is demanded by the companies who decide what shows that they wish to advertise in. market research is a very important source of data that is compiled with only the aim of increasing sales, and the decisions of the media managers in those companies drawn from the compilations of survey responses dictates the building blocks of future TV shows that they are willing to endorse with their ads.

Depressingly true, I suspect, and likely explains why TV is declining ever deeper into a bubble-wrapped and "offensive to no-one" drivel.

Though there are some exceptions: The Sopranos, Rome, Spartacus, The Tudors, some of those are pretty explicit.
I think the main reason this sort of stuff usually isn't on tv is because you need to watch them in order, unlike cheap sitcom repeats that are always on.
