The Jewish community left, fled, or were forced out in the aftermath of 1948. Many of them went to Israel, or to European countries, or to South America.

There are well less than 100 Jews left in the country (there was about 100 Jews in the late 1990s) and the last synagogue in the country closed last year. Apparently, life for the last very few Jews who remain in Egypt would be utterly unbearable to most of us.

Of course, now the Jewish community is extinct, the Egyptians have taken to persecuting the (much larger) Christian community instead. Gangs of Muslims have been attacking, raping and murdering Christians for years there. No talking about that from the anti-Israel left though.
