If PPR met in RL, I'm not sure if it would replace a daytime talk/screaming show, or cagefighting.

I think we would all find some common ground and then share a good laugh.

When I find a appopriate time to talk aboutChristianity, and answer the questions I'm capable of.

Besides, if I wanted to pick a fight, I'd do it in the video games section.

Most of my over 1000 posts to date on WP have had something to do with the "controversy" over the fact of evolution. Some people are unwilling to accept what is demonstrably real because it conflicts with their religious beliefs. I don't go out of my way to start fights on this subject, but when I see anyone posting what I *know* are falsehoods about this subject I will speak up for truth.

Most people who do not accept the observed fact of evolution do so because they are very badly misinformed about this subject. Creationist sources ignore much of the most important evidence for evolution, and they deny or distort what they do not ignore. Creationist sources are also notorious for "quote mining" where they cherry pick parts of a quotation out of context to make it look like the person being quoted means the OPPOSITE of what they clearly said when you read the original quotation in its context. It is blatantly dishonest to misrepresent people's views in this way and it really ticks me off, especially because once misquoted like this the lie spreads and spreads and is repeated endlessly by people who think it supports their position when it actually does not.

I had a similar opinion already, but On Liberty makes a better job at expressing it. I go to PPR whenever there is something I've read and thought a lot about, and have more or less clear, but I have not debated it with other people yet, and until I do and I see everything that can be said against it and the arguments behind it, and can successfully address all those counterarguments, I can't be reasonably sure about it. Most of the time I end up making revisions to what I originally thought, and there has been at least one occasion where someone managed to prove me mostly wrong, but in the end if it helps me get closer to the truth, then it is worth it. When I try to convince others of my views or at least understand them is not really because I want to convince them, but because it means my argumentation is solid and what I am saying is close to the truth. There are some people whose worldviews are too different to mine in a very basic way, and in those cases I can do little more than acknowledge it and move on because their arguments based in those worldviews won't be valid to me, or mine to them, but generally I hear good things often enough debating is worth it.

Is it only me, or people don't take PPR as seriously as I thought they did?

I chose the second option - I enjoy taking part in debates, though they're not always intelligent.

I guess it would count as a "special interest" of mine. There's just something about the hypocrisy of the side that claims to have the moral high ground in fact having the most DISHONEST sources of information that gets to me. For some reason that really offends me as I think it would most people if they knew what I know about this matter.

I have seen most if not all creationist arguments and most are really sad. They demonstrate such abysmal ignorance of what evidence actually exists and their misunderstanding of what science is and how it works would be funny except for the negative consequences of their dumbing down schoolchildren to the detriment of our country, our species and our planet. They do not bring any honor to Christ by spreading lies and misinformation in His name, and if they succeed they could drag humanity back to the Dark Ages where knowledge is suppressed and superstitious nonsense rules.

Because I like to discuss politics, philosophy, and religion, and this is the safest place to do so.
I tend to drive away friends when I try to talk about anything meaningful on Facebook, whereas you lot are kind of stuck with me.

I like arguing the toss. Sometimes I get aerated by stuff. And occasionally somebody posts something so gormless, naive or callous I find myself firing off a response even though it's probably a bad idea. Sometimes I keep it going. Other times I can't be bothered once my initial itch has been scratched. I doubt most of us have been deeply altered by the posts of others here with differing ideologies, but every now and then someone adds a genuinely interesting point to a discussion. It isn't often me though. :P

You're really trying your damnedest to start an evolutionist vs. creationist fight in this thread aren't you?

No Raptor, I'm not trying to start a fight. I am answering the question of this thread as to why I post in PPR. It is because I am so highly offended by those who claim the moral high ground being so much in denial of reality that they spread so much false information on this subject, misinformation that anyone can easily see is false with just a few minutes research. Since only a few minutes research is sufficient to expose the dishonesty, hypocrisy and STUPIDITY of most creationist web sites, imagine how much more I must be offended having studied this subject intensely for more than four decades so far?

And don't you think it dishonest for anyone to pick words out of context to misrepresent what someone else is saying to imply that other person means the OPPOSITE of their original meaning in the full quotation? Creationist sites are notorious for this, and yes, the blatant dishonesty (either that or incredible stupidity, maybe both perhaps neither) of this practice highly offends my sense of right and wrong, of truth versus lies.

I don't mean to hijack this thread. If anyone wants a fuller discussion of this subject, please start another thread here in PPR. I usually check WrongPlanet every day or every couple days at least the past few weeks, so I should find it. Also, we can continue in PM if you want. I hope this thread continues with the discussion of why people post in PPR instead of being derailed. Of course someone could post that THEIR view of why they post is to counter those evil atheist darwinist evolutionist scientists and rant a bit as I have. Forgive me, but please note the frustration. Imagine half the people in your country seriously believed the earth is flat in spite of all evidence to the contrary. This controversy is that ridiculous and that stupid, yet it is reality in 21st century America. Wow, just wow... It's like I'm living in the Twilight Zone.

Then in the same breath he dives back into a rant about evolution vs. creation.
I rest my case.
