The more common conspiracy theory about Angleton was that he was actually a Soviet plant, as he turned the agency inside out with a series of extremely destructive mole hunts that ruined the careers of many talented agents, doing so much damage that some theorize that he was the mole the whole time. I believe he also coined the term "a wilderness of mirrors" to describe counterintelligence work, but I may be mistaken on that. His reign is generally thought of as a dark time for the CIA.

Thats the bottomline of how Americans view Angelton today- if thats what you're asking about.

I know that theory about Angelton, but I personally think he was probably clinically paranoid, and that the Soviet mole was a figment of his own warped imagination.
