Have to say I disagree with all that. You are probably wondering how this could possibly be but I think people are better off being happy no matter what, even in the face of pain. If they can continue and make the world a better place despite it, they and everyone else benefits and this goes for everyone. Happiness trumps all misery everywhere.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Pearce_(philosopher) While I'm not smart enough to comprehend much of what this guy's written, it's comforting to know people like him are out there.

It's a nice idea, but I'm afraid would ultimately be unworkable. You're messing with the freedom of the will, and deep down you'd have people being disconcerted because, for all the happiness they feel, something just isn't "right."

You'd have the occasional Winston you'd need to take to Room 101 for reeducation, teach them that 2+2=5 and all that. Perhaps if you could regularly schedule periods of time when people could come off the medication, like for "hate days" or "hate weeks," or something...

Reminds me of the sci-fi movie "Serenity" where such a drug was released in a gaseous form on an entire planet full of people. 99% of the people became so happy and blissful they just spaced out and didn't bother to eat or drink again and consequently died and the remaining 1% became rabid psychopaths.

How about a different approach?

Take Prozium, the No-Emotion drug:

... Then you wouldn't care about anything ever again.

And then you can do awesome Gun Kata moves:

.. of course... You wouldn't *consider* the moves awesome, because you wouldn't consider anything awesome...

AND you finally get to kill Sean Bean.
