I consider such so called documentaries like Why Does Michael Moore Hate America to hardly be unbiased sources.
And while he may play fast and loose with source materials like video and film, I hardly think the central points he's trying to make are hardly disingenuous. Far from it, Capitalism: A Love Story, I think, was right on the mark.

what lies has Moore told?

Parts of Fahrenheit 9/11 could be misleading, particularly when talking about Dubya & the Bin Laden family.

In America, we do have a HUGE lie and distortion factory coming from the Right--Fox News plus hate radio.

Michael Moore is the only one we have who is maybe a little bit left of center. And he only produces on film every few years.

Even if his movies were nothing but lies and distortions, they wouldn't begin to balance out the garbage coming from the Right.

I like Michael Moore and I'll be interested in his take on this issue. I won't totally agree with it (I've yet to meet anyone I totally agree with on this issue) but it will give me something to think about. That's why I watch his films, even though I know how manipulated they are; it's interesting commentary if nothing else. People who disagree with him (which I do sometimes) should enjoy his films because it gives them a chance to use their brain to come up with a counter-argument.

I thought Michael Moore was just one of those things - fat, which is hardly the worst one on that list. Maybe ambitious too, but that's a good quality.

I don't exactly hold the guy up as a paragon of neutrality, or even of making great documentaries, but I automatically discount any criticism of him that mentions what he looks like. Yet it happens with delicious predictability whenever his name is mentioned, someone with mention the 'f' word as a reason not to listen to him.

Ahh, another person who checks the partisan alignment of a lie before deciding whether or not it's actually a lie, rather than the the more conventional "is it true?" approach.

Here's Politifact on some of his more recent utterances:

http://www.politifact.com/personalities ... tatements/

Here's a dissection of Bowling for Columbine:
http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html

I could go on, from out and out lies like the fact that he actually did an interview with Roger Smith for Roger and Me but chose to omit it from the film, or the wildly inaccurate timeline given in that same film, to the simply deceptive, like the way he presents himself as a blue collar guy from Flint when he's really from the management enclave next door and lives a wealthy life in an NYC penthouse, it's all out there and well documented.

I'd say hitch your credibility to this guy at your own risk, but then you don't exactly have much to lose in the first place.

Sad that even here people would defend telling lies as acceptable when the mark of a credible documentary maker is if his final product fairly represents the TRUTH.

Most of the statements listed are true. I gather that most of these statements are just random "tweets." Most people don't put much thought into their "tweets" before hitting "enter."

The first one is false, but it says that he later corrected the "tweet."

The last statement:

Quote:
During the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Clintons brought the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the White House for "spiritual counseling."

I remember that they had actually brought in Jesse Jackson (also a black reverend) for spiritual counseling. I would write this one off as an innocent mistake.

i think the anti-moore sentiment comes from the fact that he rails against argumentum ad populam.

With the sum of all things taken into consideration, I believe he is truthful.

More like the right just doesnt tell the truth that the the left wants to hear.

The center must have moved a few miles left since the last time I checked. But of course, there is no left in America; only normal people and right wing fanatcits. What was I thinking.

Trashy films none the less.....

Again, it's just not the truth the left wants to hear.....

Inevitably, any film thats made about the middle east conflict without the supervision of faux news shills or huge conservative-zionist goggles will appear to be that way.

Obviously Moore has few friends in the USA. He should defect to Europe, maybe he can be more effectual here.

You lot can have Russell Brand since you've taken him to your hearts. Now he is a REAL commie.

That is horse pebbles.

Most of the folks in the heartland, "typical americans" are not the Pinko Stinko Commie Loving Democrat Liberal you find on the East Coast and the West Coast.

And yet the people of the coasts make up a majority of the country, compared to the less numerous denizens of the heartland. So I guess being a pinko stinko commie liberal Democrat is what constitutes mainstream America.

I was being sarcastic and mimicking something the +r011 (pronounced something like "troll") said at least once before.
