I ended up undergoing an hours-long ordeal culminating in an expensive municipal bylaw ticket because I was honest. Had I lied to them I probably would have been let go.

You'll know better next time. Honesty usually doesn't pay.

Several months later a nasty cop put the gloves on and went up to me and said, "Are you with them?", referring to people nearby, and I said "no"... even though I did end up there with them but I was not with them at that moment and did not know about their plans... and then made all sorts of threats, and asked why I was trying to record the proceedings; "Are you trying to be a witness?", he asked. He must really think the police are horrible people who do shameful things all the time! What a jerk.

The police are jerks and not to be trusted.

Don't tell them anything, don't even talk to them if you can help it. Police are lieing, manipulating, bullying, thugs in uniform with the law as a club. I hate them.

Today I read on another forum about politics, that my arguments in favor of public welfare are invalid, because I am biased (I am on welfare myself).

Did you actually argue with someone, or was someone arguing against positions you'd normally take, and you simply felt pre-empted by their claiming self interest as the motivator for people such as yourself? I can't tell from the way you've written it.

Hell, the only difference between them and me is that I am honest about my self-interest. Nobody knows anything about their self-interest.

If nobody knows anything about their own self interest, how do you know you're being honest about yours? It's a bit of a contradictory statement.

Again, I am punished for being honest.

It doesn't sound like it, depending upon whether you actually argued with someone or merely felt argued with by proxy, someone was using your presumed biases to try and discredit your opinion, which may be lazy arguing, but isn't 'punishing you for honesty'; they'd have argued with you just the same, they'd just have used a different approach.

Why isn't honesty rewarded in this world? Should I go about lying? What's that lie about that the truth will always prevail? It clearly doesn't!

Let's see how you handle honesty yourself before we start making sweeping generalizations about it.
