I didn't say where the proceeds were going to was sinister - just the notion of selling firearms on his birthday. I can't remember- where are the proceeds going to?

I don't see anything wrong with having a gun raffle on MLK day, it's a day off so why not? Maybe I could see your point if he were assassinated on this day but he wasn't, it's not even his birthday.

What if I set up a comedy show focusing on ridiculing those afflicted with Alzheimer's on Reagan's birthday? Wouldn't that be tasteless and callous?

I'm not sure I follow, was MLK for gun control? I somehow doubt it since the gun control advocates of his era were motivated by their fear of blacks taking their civil rights into their own hands. I wouldn't connect MLK to guns the same way I'd connect Alzheimer's to Reagan.

No, my point is, King was shot by an assassin's bullet, while Reagan died from Alzheimer's - emphasizing either while commemorating their memory is in bad taste.
And no, King wasn't involved in gun rights. But, back in those days, conservatives in fact favored gun control for fear that guns would fall into the hands of black radicals.

MLK carried a gun, a**holes. When he wasn't strapped himself, he was surrounded by people who were. Read some books before opening your ignorant yaps.

Resorting to vile names? No one said anything about MLK and the right to carry, just that it's tacky to have a raffle with guns for someone who was assassinated by a gun.

Another laughable holiday.

Let me explain....

Today's paper had a story lamenting the deplorable condition of most Martin Luther King, Jr. streets in America. They are run down, crime ridden, etc.

Why is that story laughable? People people are so STUPID.

Why was that road named after Martin Luther King, Jr.? Largely to pander to the minority community. They don't ever pick a road going through an upscale, prosperous part of town because there is hardly any minority population there. They always pick a road going through the run-down section of town. It's a feel-good gesture, but naming a road after Mr. King does N-O-T-H-I-N-G to change the economic reality. The local minority community doesn't do anything to revitalize the neighborhood, so things tend to get worse, not better.

Rather than have these useless gestures that do nothing, why not focus on things that would really help uplift minorities out of their poverty.

* Put an emphasis on saying "no" to pre-marital sex and not getting pregnant before getting married.

* Put an emphasis on doing more than finishing high school (which is laughably easy today) and going to learn a skill or get a degree that will empower you to do something with your life.

* Put an emphasis on taking back the streets and building local businesses for the local community rather than letting the criminal element have their way.

Nah...it's simpler to have a road named after Mr. King and call it a day...then gripe every year about how nothing ever gets better.

This is a Republican raffle. So, of course the proceeds are going to something sinister.

Quote:
The AR-15 is the type of rifle that’s been used in several high-school shootings across the country. The party said it's celebrating the two Republicans, trying to bring in some cash and making a statement about gun rights.

The proceeds are going to the Republican party!

And, why are the Republicans claiming MLK as one of their own? Everyone knows that MLK was a communist.

Hell, I've probably ridiculed people with Alzheimer's on Reagan's birthday. I'm just not as thin skinned and eager to be offended as you all is what it is.

And all you’re doing here is just following the party line. “Gee, the other liberals are in an uproar so I’m obligated to do the same just because!!”

Hey guys, we enslaved this race for a really long time and treated them like garbage until we were no longer legally allowed to. Why are they so impoverished and disadvantaged? I just don't get it!

Also, I'm not really sure why you're railing against commemorating the life of MLK Jr. He knew perfectly well that desegregation was only the beginning of a longer, more cumbersome shift in American society. This was an America that legally mandated that all minorities must use the crappy water fountain for "reasons." Just because it's not legally defensible in the Supreme Court doesn't mean that the same people who made those crappy water fountains evaporate into nothing like vampires when the sunlight hits them.

The NAACP is celebrating MLK Day with a gun buy-back.

Only idiots and simpletons put any stock in "gun buybacks". The money has to come from somewhere to fund these follies and this only re-enforces the left's childish carelessness when it comes to money. If those idiots really wanted to curb gun related deaths and injuries they'd spend the money on at least rudimentary firearms safety training in public schools.

I remember one gun buyback that was held on the same day and in the same complex as a gun show. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together took their guns into the gun show instead and often got considerably better prices unless the gun was junk. Some were sold in the parking lot! Money talks and feelgood bullshi+ walks.
