Does Christianity do too much to make suffering seem good?

But Moviefan, I grew up in a fundamentalist church, and the biggest question I have (among other questions) is why an advanced and infinitely wise God could allow something as primitive and barbaris as blood sacrifice.

Who declared anyway, that only the shedding of blood could remove sin - the minister always used to intone that in communion. Isn't blood sacrifice of any type incompatible with advancement and superior wisdom?
