So yes, when that typical US fundie hardliners, manage to be more fundie then the pope, then they definitly dont match for representing "the typcial christian". ^^
The difference between Europe and the US is that in the US people have left the mainline protestant churches, and joined the fundie/evangelical/charismatic churches.
"While in 1970 the mainline churches claimed most Protestants and more than 30 percent of the population as members,[14] today they are a minority among American Protestants, claiming approximately 15 percent of American adults among their adherents in 2009."

I think you may be mistaken about evangelicals outnumbering mainline Protestants. Even though evangelicals have been growing, mainliners still outnumber them. Part of this misconception is based on the fact that evangelicals push this idea themselves that mainline churches are hemorrhaging members, and that they define all mainline churches as hard left (many mainline Protestant denominations are in fact right of center). Also, there is a very real possibility that rather than sheep stealing from mainline churches, evangelicals are simply having more children, possibly because mainline Protestants have far less a problem with contraception than evangelicals do.

According to this graph, 48% of USians are Protestand, with 19% Evangelical, 15% Mainline and 8% Black churches. I think it depends on whether black churches are considered mainline or not. It could also be the case that Evangelicals simply have a more vocal, nutty presence in the media. That´s where you´ll find a lot of the evolution deniers and other extremist positions. What I wanted to say in the original post was that that's one of the main differences between the Protestants in Europe compared to part of the Protestants in the US. Like this infamous example:
"While in 1970 the mainline churches claimed most Protestants and more than 30 percent of the population as members,[14] today they are a minority among American Protestants, claiming approximately 15 percent of American adults among their adherents in 2009."

Some of the mainline churches are not any better. The Lutheran church in Missouri is a good example. They are adamant creationist. Knock on your door and attempt to convince you freaky. Many of them were the driving forces behind trying to get evolution removed from school. Oppressive of woman and homosexuals. They are not a good bunch here.
You can't blame the fringe.

Trust me, I know all about the Missouri Synod, as I'm actually a member of that denomination

Concerning black churches, while their way of worship and their theology fits more with evangelicals, their mindset is much more with the mainline churches.

Really? And I thought I had heard it all about how they treat our tribe's children.

Its done quietly and mostly in secret with very little media attention. This type of thing is not done across the entire country and it seems to be hard to tell just how prevalent it actually is, but yes this happens. We are treated like trash in some public schools.
A few weeks ago I saw another story about this. An autistic 8 year old had his head stuck in a chair and the school faculty gathered around to make fun of him and they tased him and then expelled him. The story went public and he was put back in school I think. I think that this is how mass murders are created btw. Its absolutely disgusting. I have been trying to find the links but it has been hard to dig up.

We actually have a thread here on WP about the "head stuck in a chair" kid, and I think it might still be active.
I thank my lucky stars, the Lord Jesus, Wodan lord of Valhalla, and anyone else, that my daughter, who is also autistic, goes to a very good school district here in Washington state known for their special ed programs for autistic kids. Her teachers are nothing short of a Godsend - I wish I could have had a program like that when I was a kid.

I was home schooled for the first few years, then bounced around to a new school every year after that. Failed 8th grade and had to repeat it and then ended up graduating after my 9th grade(long story). I had mix of moron level idiot teachers and ones who absolutely great. The worse was charter a small charter school, my first year of 8th grade. The two best school were the public school I did my second year of 8th grade at and then another small charter school where I went for 1 1/2 years before graduating. Although I wasn't diagnosed with an ASD in school(many other things tho!) And yes your daughter is lucky good for you to get her in there.

Actually, getting my daughter into her great special ed program had more to do with the dumb luck of living in the right school district, than anything which I did.
