I assume they were definitely talking about guys acting like creeps, rather than, as it sounds, guys quietly leaving them be - say, as the cliche has it, leaving them in a post-coital slumber to head home? Because that's what 'creeping out on' sounds more like to me.

How would you feel about this definition of rape: coercion by one person of another intended to gain access to something that the second person would naturally give only to a mate ?

So you get someone to consensually sleep with you solely to, what, borrow their guitar? Get a look at their thimble collection that they're kind of ashamed of? Get an STD you really want?

"Creeping out" in their case meant sitting too close at partied, chatting them up, and otherwise trying to get them to bed. Like I said, it's not harrassment on the same level if you still care who did it.

You act as though men are the only people who want something from the opposite sex. Coitus is hardly the only reproductive urge. It starts the fertilization process, and that's all it does. After that, there's a huge investment made by other people, including a lot people who weren't asked for consent.

I said that rape is "coercion by one person of another, intended to gain access to something that the second person would naturally give only to a mate."

There are LOTS of things that I wouldn't share with anyone other than a mate. My feelings on that are every bit as traceable to evolution as female sexual selectivity. It's in my interests as an organism to be selective about what I give. I'm not going to let you pick them apart individiually until we;ve dealt with the principle. What's wrong with the above definition?

Obviously I don't know these women you're talking about. I would sooner pick their brains on the matter than your memory and interperetation of it. One guess would be 'creeping out' has passed out of the necessarily pejorative into a catch-all slang term to be applied to both welcome and unwelcome attention.

As to your definition, rape is, to my understanding, forced, non-consensual penetration. It's not that difficult a concept to grasp, barring where one defines it against sexual assault (all rapes are sexual assault, but are all sexual assaults rape, etc?).

Having consensual sex with someone because you want something from them - no, I don't think that's rape. It may not be very upstanding or pleasant, but no, I wouldn't call that rape.

I'm not sure why evolution needs to be brought into the matter, either.

You will be very, very poor long before you get to enjoy that. You've lowered other people's boats. Too bad (for you) that you can't raise yours.

On the other hand: prisoners are mostly men (and the US has waaaay more prisoners than other countries), homeless people are mostly men, and men get murdered more (usually by other men). And those positions of power you mention... not much use when you're one of the other 95% percent of men who are NOT in positions of power. When you get screwed over by someone in power it doesn't really matter whether that person has a third leg or not.

Sure, I'm not saying that life's easier for men or whatever. Life is not so great for most of us, unfortunately. But if one argues, that *government hates men*, I'm just saying that it is made up mostly by men and their decisions have historically and I think that now as well (not so much) have favored men, in some sense. Now in what sense and if that actually translated into well-being of men, is another question. I think in many ways not and there are many reasons why I would not want to be one. We can ask one question - why do people think it's inappropriate to have a female president? Luckily this question is gradually losing its meaning, and our society is becoming more homogeneous. Still, the point is - the government does not hate men. It hates poor people...

what are you talking about. i have no time for your insecurities and fears, the future looks pretty bright, unless folks like you will be holding it back with your ancient views and sexist preconceptions. im happy with the way things are going right now, and looks like you, nobodyknows, are the one who's frustrated. so bad for you

Hey, I'd like some of the benefit of the doubt that you so reliably afford to women. Even without it, it isn't normal for guys to room with girls in my part of the Midwest. I was only there because I had unusually good cross-gender relationships at the time. I've been straight with you about their conversation.

Actually, it means 'carrying off by force,' with or without specific reference to the object. Regardless of how it's used, basing policy on charged words is cheap. A more grown-up question would be 'what principle justifies the special emotional weight attached to it?'

If it's wrong because of a basic human principle (like 'sanctity of self'), then it's wrong for anybody. Remember that my boundaries aren't the same as a woman's. Alternately, you can claim that women have special feelings that you and I don't have, and therefore deserve more consideration. That may be possible to measure. Either way, the fact is that we treat it as a unique crime: In my state we have ex post facto lifetime commitments to "treatment centers," which really aren't treatment centers. US officials hadn't presided over any other ex post facto punishment since Nuremberg when that was instated.

Regardless of which justification you choose, women have no right to decide what parts of me are sacrosanct. That's mine alone. I'd much rather be buggered in my butt than my brain. The things that top my sanctity wish-list are things that women often feel entitled to intrude into.

It's not about sex. It's about taking something that isn't yours.

Because it's objective. If something harms reproductive success, then you can make a theoretical argument that it should be emotionally painful. That adds credibility to something that would otherwise depend on self-reporting.

You can apply objective measures to the other side of the issue, too: If someone's work-ethic or pain tolerance rises sharply in pursuit of something, you can assume that they want it badly. That's been well studied in men, but less so in women (to my knowledge).

There are also physical and behavioral markers of pain. You can measure cortisol. You can look for lapses in basic self care. (I stopped eating when I was being brain-buggered by female teachers as a kid.) There are patterns of facial muscle tensing that correlate with pain. You can look for long term psychological dysfunction that correlates with abuse.

It - I mean, 'rape' - also means "the refuse of grapes left after the extraction of the juice in winemaking".

Do you need my permission to refer to whatever you have in mind that happened to you as 'rape'?

Being raped - I mean, you know, sexually - usually involves being 'buggered' in the brain, too. Deliberately so.

It seems to me you are trying to bring me to a certain conclusion which will either have me agreeing with you or (for your amusement) in some way contradicting myself or something. Please be clear about your purpose. It saves a lot of bother.

Recently my family and I were talking about this issue. The news seems to make men look aggressive and women look week. This is only a unit of the reasons why I don't look at the news very often. It makes the world seem so depressing.

This is also the reason that I never watch "Criminal Minds". From the snippets I have seen, it seems to have a lot to do with this issue that you are talking about.

For the OP, US government LOVES men. There are more men in power, by far, the president is a man, most governors are men, politics is largely ruled by men. Judges are mostly men, especially higher up. Men earn more, men have the final saying. What's the problem? Luckily tables are slowly turning around, future is not looking so bright for the men, haha.

Pretty sure that only applies to public restrooms. And the person who introduced it mistakenly believed that urine was a vector for disease as opposed to just being gross.

If US government hated men you would see women making a lot more money because the government would make sure of it.

If anything hates men it's the chemical industry:

Industries in general, and governments as industries, have no regard for a common person. And on top of that each one of us have no regard for our fellow humans. I am getting sick of this divide between sexes

This is rubbish.

As you can see, as women's wages rise... men's wages rise! :o

I am not implying a causal relationship, merely that your suggested causal relationship is poo-poo.

Median income is irrelevant. Individual stories are relevant.
