Universal unitarianism because then I still don't have to believe in anything.

Probably Wicca or Buddhism, or if I'm in the mood for something a bit more exotic, maybe Thelema or Asatru. I'd almost consider LaVeyan Satanism, except it sort of has a bad reputation, as people confuse it for theistic Satanism.

Most likely though, I'd just practice a non-specific form of Paganism.

Yep, it is all nonsense to me so I might as well pretend to follow the nonsense preferred by my dictator. Other than that I would look for one which has the least participation requirements, requires the least alms, and has the least interfering doctrine. if Buddhism is to be classed as a religion that might well suffice, spin a few prayer wheels, light a joss stick, and give a piece of rice to a parasitic monk, I think I can do that.

If I had to, then Buddhism, but not the sects that believe in deities.
Spending time in one of their monasteries would be good.
I'm very good at naval-gazing.

I'd start a new one that's entirely based around a material, natural explanation for existence. With no proscribed rituals or fixed dogma. I'd convert to areligion.

That's why you have your own firearm to even the playing field.

Simple science.

I can no more will myself to believe in a deity, or anything else mystical, than I can will myself to believe that two plus two makes five.

If I find myself in some kind of theocracy, where the irreligious are punished, I will feign whatever belief will keep me from being murdered. But I will be joining the resistance and/or trying to escape.

This is essentially what I failed to articulate before just making a snarky shitpost.

Thinking about it now, I probably would become a LaVeyan Satanist if I were forced to convert to a religion, just because the whole philosophy of it subverts what most religions are about anyway. It's essentially a doctrine based around hedonism, self-worship, and social darwinism, and I'm kind of OK with that.

It would certainly piss off whoever is holding a gun to my head, forcing me to convert to a religion. ;)

Religion is one thing. Keep in mind, several religions pretty much require you to get married and reproduce, so forcing someone to convert to any of them is like forcing them to get married and have children and to stay married forever and ever. So, it is not simply a matter of converting to a religion, it's also living up to the tenants of it as well.

I already have a religion and it's a very ancient one, plus it is one of the easiest religions of all. I am a Gnostic and I find it is a great way to be. Much better than anything else I have stumbled upon because I like to study and contemplate the meaning of life, what the universe is, if we are alone, and the divine spark within. Plus, Gnosticism focuses on the individual's relationship with the mystical. It's not about you and others or anything you are required to do. No one is there to say you can't be a Gnostic because you didn't fulfill an obligation of some sort. Gnosticism is simply a state of being and that's all.

Buddhism. Because it's not about deity, it's about gaining control over ones base emotions and desires to focus on the betterment of self & humanity. I have long been attracted to the tenets of buddhism so it wouldn't be a conversion for me anyway.
