There are millions of religious fanatics out there who only want to force their way on absolutely everyone, they want to use government as their vessel. What can you do about it?
All I can do is make the type of noise I am doing.
Fire has to be fought with fire and the only thing most of us can do is support efforts against Jihadists in particular and the religions that breed these guys in general.
Note that Jihadist numbers are being bolstered by Islamic religious fanatics and the numbers against them must also be bolstered by those who fight them as well. The unity of the religious Islamic fanatics must be matched by the unity of those who would oppose them.

I believe fire has to be fought with water or some kind of flame retardant or it should be deprived of whatever is fueling it.
That is the logic of fighting fire with fire. It deprives or starves the other fire of fuel.

Let us pray to all the Gods that it gets big enough to rid the world of all literal idol worshiping religions.
Then we could say.

You're slamming the Pope for saying almost the opposite of what he is actually saying.
He is saying "dont slam Islam as a whole, slam extremism in any religion".
The two western responses to the recent terrorism pretty much break down that way: either saying "All is Islam is bad", or saying "just extreme Islam is bad". And the Pope is one of the latter (more restrained) type of respondents.

Was Christianity extremist when it ushered in the Dark Ages and Inquisition?
What makes you think they would not be again if they could gain the power?

Exactly my point.
And Exactly what the Pope said. you're just repeating the Pope's very point.
The Pope did NOT say "Islam is worse than my religion because it has extremists". He said that every creed has extremists- so lets make common cause against the extremists in every creed.
I am not an apologist for any of the Abrahamic religions. So if you wanna bash any of them I am not gonna stop you.
But if you're gonna bash something -why make a fool of yourself by latching onto a statement by the Pope that shows the opposite of what you say it shows? I am trying defend YOU, not Christianity.
If you survey Western responses to the recent terrorism-that statement by the Pope is rather restrained and tolerant and self effacing.
In contrast -look at that lady on that panel at the Heritage Foundation-in that film clip on that other thread.
She responds to that muslim young lady by just loosing it and going on a tirade that concludes by saying that the nonextremist majority of Muslims are "irrelevent" (so lets make war on all of them-or something).

All I am doing is comparing Christian history and tactics to what Islam is using today and indicating that all literalist idol worshiping religions are evil at their roots and should be outlawed or have their books changed so that Jihadists or delusional literalist right wingers can be eliminated. Both Christianity and Islam teach of us and them and should be helped to think of us only. They both say that there is only one God so should be urged and forced if needs be to act like it.

The secular world is too big to fail.
But sure, if we could end it without another death that would be great. I do not sense that Islam is ready to re-write their divisive Qu'ran though just like we cannot seem to get Christianity to take the divisive garbage out of the bible.
Secular governments are still giving all religions respect that they do not deserve thanks to the Noble Lie. I think it is time for the secular world to start showing the disrespect that religious are worthy of.
As a Gnostic Christian, I would not mind that as then the benefits of Gnostic Christianity could shine.

What is a non-literal God? A metaphorical God? That implies that God does not exist.
A non-literal God would be a God who is a mystery just as the Christian un-knowable, un-fathomable, works in mysterious ways God is supposed to be. Unfortunately, Christians and Muslims took that mystery and gave it a name and attributes that their own theology says they should not do. They somehow end up fathoming the un-fathomable.
Those literal Gods are the ones who took all the fun out of seeking God and started all the killing.
