Vince Vaughn: "Banning guns is like....."
Arrrgh! I am jealous. The S&W range? Wow. Next time you are in Salt Lake City, we should go to one of our ranges.
Yeah, Jack Robison's mom was a member there so I went with Jack and his mom. It actually happens to share a parking lot with John Robison's Rolls Royce/European car repair business. It's much nicer than the ranges here in LA.
Ah i wish you had offered that a couple weeks ago while I was there! Would have been fun. Next time for sure.

Wow. I didn't state that it was sarcastic----I asked if it was sarcasm, as I have seen other people make statements, with the tone your post seemed, to have.
ah that makes sense. Just to be clear, I intended no sarcasm.
Oh, good----thankyou for responding.

I'll add that the S&W range was the first time I ever fired a gun, despite growing up in Virginia (I had been around them a lot but never fired one until I went to S&W. Although our public elementary school actually took a field trip to FBI headquarters in DC where we got to go the shooting range and watch our teacher fire guns in the range there.. the kids weren't allowed to shoot) .
I think any of you guys who don't like guns or are afraid of them but have never fired one before should ask one of your friends who is experienced with them to take you to the range and show you how to shoot one. It actually changed my views on guns and gun control once I used one for the first time. People are afraid of things they aren't familiar with.

I had a former partner who went with me to monthly LGBT range visits after I founded Stonewall Shooting Sports of Utah in 2002. He attended our Utah Concealed Firearm Permit class and enjoyed it. Months later, I asked if he had decided on a firearm that he liked best and might buy. He replied that he simply wanted "to get over" his fear of firearms and didn't have a desire to own one. Great answer! He had accomplished his goal and decreased his support of firearm-restriction laws.
So, I agree with Alex. There are many reasons to learned the safe and lawful use of firearms even if an individual never wants to own one. Besides, range time is fun!

Yep, I agree, as well----and, have shared the same sentiment, right here on this very forum----as well as, in person. I think people fear what they do not understand, or have no experience in----this can be said of everything, from firearms, to raising children, etc., etc., etc.
I also agree that a shooting range can be SOOOO much fun----especially, when we're "down-home", and the "range" is tin cans on tree stumps, in the backyard!! (My nephew got a .357 magnum for Christmas, a couple of years ago----I bet he's had a BLAST, with that thing!!)

indeed though not a new argument. people have been using the spoon argument .
I'm a bit worried though, seems obama thru the DoJ and ATF are trying to get guns that way.
they failed to ban 5.56 for now. but are now going after us(aspies) or anyone who has ever seen a therapist or is seen as not normal.
http://thehill.com/regulation/243520-ad ... egulations
you can't blanket ban people based on how they are born. rights should be removed on a person by person basis. aspies for example are more violent than nts, so why ban all us from guns, when there's no legit reason.
so tired of being scared and under attack by the antis. they'll also trying to ban online ammo sells.
whats a high powered pistol? 50bmg ? or anti high powered ie, 22 lr. :s
they are also trying to mandate all gun owners have expensive insurance to be able to own guns. all this is to a goal of making it impossible for anyone to own guns except the super rich. I can hardly afford to go shooting. I can't pay 100-500 or more a month for insurance under some idea that just having a gun means I should pay for when some person goes and does a shooting. never mind the fact said person won't pay for insurance.
tis this whole idea that all gun owners are evil and guilty for the few.
applie that to race or sex. and people get offended but have no problem doing so to gun owners. all gun owners are ____. etc.
sorry I have no one else to talk to about this being in blue state and lacking friends who own guns.
I am optimistic that the proposed regulations won't pass congressional or court review; I amn't even certain that all the proposed regulations will be adopted by their regulatory boards. Still, it is the "mentally ill" proposal that I believe has the strongest chance of adoption; but, that isn't saying much. Because the proposed regulations would be federal in jurisdiction, it is important to note that the federal Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA) has prohibited the purchase, possession or use of firearms by anyone who "has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has [involuntarily] been committed to any mental institution" ( https://www.nraila.org/articles/2013012 ... d-firearms ). That phrase could be the key to preventing related regulations from being adopted. I believe that even most firearm owners would agree with the GCA provision in principal.
In short, federal regulations can't generally undermine or contradict federal laws. So, the Obama administration would need to convince the Congress to amend the GCA in its favor; something that the Republican majorities of both chambers would be loathe to do in the lead-up to an open-seat presidential election. Even Democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton would remember what happened in 1993 when U.S. President Bill Clinton signed the federal Assault-Weapons Ban into law. The consequent 1994 congressional election handed the Democratic Party a 54-seat loss in the U.S. House of Representatives and ushered in the "Republican Revolution." President Clinton admitted as much after the mid-term congressional loss. Democratic presidential and congressional candidates would similarly loathe such a measure which would undoubtedly energize gun-owning voters.
At this point, it doesn't appear that the Obama administration can pull this off.

idk they changed what the law means for armor piercing ammo. despite the ammo not meeting what the law stated they banned it. ATF and obama can enforce the law as to how they think it means. congress didn't do squat for it and the courts say its ok. the courts are stacked against us. congress makes a show of it but doesn't actually do anything to stop it.
most gun owners already think we shouldn't have guns. so they won't care. I've seen them on youtube chats saying aspies are violent and uncontrollable, back during the newtown thing. others will throw us the minority in front of the bus to save themselves.
its scary. but they just consider us mentally ill regardless of the fact it's not true. this is why I didn't want to go see a therapist and now I might lose my rights and the therapy didn't do anything to help me either.
A firearm is just a tool that can be used in a crime, but it's not the cause of the crime itself.
Bad crimes (violent ones) will happen just as much no matter the tool the criminal uses (or doesn't use).
If you want to actually help in regards to stopping crime, you need to look at what causes it, and to see if that can be helped (sometimes it can, sometimes it can't).

BLAST indeed. If you're not used to it, a .357 magnum is stunningly LOUD compared to other handguns (9mm, .45, 40, ect...).

Wow, now that would be a cool experience! Lack of a decent nearby range was the main reason I stopped shooting and sold my target-grade bullnosed .22 semi-automatic. I think it was a S&W, if I recall correctly.

Hehe. They are indeed! My SIG Sauer P229 is chambered in FBI .357-sig which, of course, combines a 9mm bullet with the brass and powder of a .40-cal round. The result is ALWAYS the same percussion of a .357 magnum. I end up apologizing frequently at the range. "Sorry!"

Please don’t hate me, anti gun nut here
I really hate guns, they scare me. People scare me too. The thing is that guns can kill a lot more people in a small amount of time, than let’s say a knife or so.
I really don’t understand people’s obsessions with guns, maybe it’s a cultural thing, but I’m really happy that guns are illegal here. I get that maybe most people will never use a gun against another person, but there will always be cases where it will happen.
People are crazy, and if you make it easy for people to kill other people more people will die, simple as that.

Fair enough. But, a lot of things and activities are even more deadly than firearms.
• Five times more likely to burn to death
• Five times more likely to drown
• 17 times more likely to be poisoned
• 17 times more likely to fall to your death
• And 68 times more likely to die in an automobile accident....
GunFacts.info: "Accidental deaths" (March 2013)
http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts ... uto,88,720
And, when it comes to accidental deaths by poisoning, prescription drugs kill far more people in the United States than accidental deaths by shootings ( http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2 ... icide.html ). In other areas of unnatural deaths, GunFact.info ( http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts ... screen.pdf ) shows that firearms aren't as deadly as other things and activities.
So, maybe these facts and those within the GunFacts.info document might help mitigate your fear of firearms. I don't expect you to run out and buy a firearm for yourself, but factual knowledge is helpful.

I understand your point, but if someone decides that they want to go out on the street and kill random strangers, then it is much easier for that person to kill a bunch of people with a gun than by poisoning, burning them or so on.
Most of the other deaths that you listed are accidents, and accidents will always happen. It is not the same as someone that goes out on town and decides to kill whoever they feel like. And that the state says that it is ok for potential killers to own guns is really bizarre to me.
If I go somewhere in a car or take medication I know that there might be an accident or a side effect. But I shouldn't have to worry that if I go somewhere someone might shoot me.
