Why is our society prudish about sexuality?
I think it has to do with the Puritanical influence in US society, that has been going on since the Mayflower landed. In the western section of the US, especially the Southwest, is more influenced by the LDS church which is also very prudish to the point where sometimes shoulders are seen as tempting.

I think that we can't say 'our society' because the cultures of the U.S. are variable. I agree that the mainstream Germanic (English, German, etc.) culture is incredibly anal retentive, but where I was raised (American side of Lake Ontario) we were much more relaxed about sensuality. Possibly due to the heavy French influence?
French and Germans tend to be more easygoing about sexuality. it's such a taboo in america because of the settlers being so ramrod straight about pious faith(read: not having fun). It's still echoing through american culture, even today.Actually, all my ancestors were Calvinists, so I don't think it's religious. If you look at the early colonial birthrates, they were a lusty lot.
You implied it. If you don't know that Calvinism was the dominant ' pious faith' of this country, you don't know history. And don't throw an f#$%ing link at me. If you can't make your own argument, you really don't have an opinion.
What if society took things a step further and made sexuality a crime, and that even having sex is illegal unless married and only one position is allowed? Anyone having sex outside of marriage spends 3 years in Guantanamo Bay. All porn is banned online, sex positive feminism is outlawed and any sexuality therapy is outlawed as well as any programming on tv is outlawed?
