This is an example of the absurdity of 'Zero Tolerance' policies that many public schools in the US have. Stuff like this happens all the time in US schools, abd the student usually gets expelled.
Weapons, or anything that could concievably be considered a 'weapon' are banned, and when found, are confiscated, and the student is either arrested or expelled. Same thing with drugs as well, to the point where if a kid brings a few tabs of aspirin or ibuprofen to school, they will be expelled for bringing in drugs.
