France is 'on the verge of a civil war'

At the expense of its citizenry. For a great in-depth economic analysis, I highly recommend you check out some of Mark Blyth's talks on Youtube.

So, which side are you on?
I'm a social conservative. I believe to truly go forwards we will have to go "backwards" in some areas of life.

The side which strives to perfect 21st century society, or the side which strives to drive us backwards?
That is part of the problem, striving to be perfect, a wise man once said utopia can only be reached across an ocean of blood, and you never arrive.

Is that the fault of those who want to drive us forward instead of backwards?
Yes, they drive us in the direction they think is forward, dismissing all warnings. Just like the communists. Both were wrong.

That too, but liberalism is dead for now, it will take at least 2 generations of very big, very illiberal governments to fix this and weather the violence, perhaps when that is over liberty can grow once again.

Things are different this time, ironically I think (Native) Europeans are going to be more friendly to one another than the EU could ever have dreamed in the long run, _if_ there is Right wing resurgence. We will have a common enemy, a hard-learned lesson about multiculturalism, respect for national borders, respect for our disparate cultures, sovereignty and non-interference. The Right of Europe are quite fond of Putin too, we could see a much more friendly relationship with Russia, which would truly put to bed the overriding conflict that that has plagued Europe for the last two centuries.

The great unsolved problem as always is this: humans are by nature: tribal and territorial. Everything is tribes, sub-tribes, groups, sub-groups, families. It's why we label, stereotype, classify, to slot fellow humans, even ourselves, into known groups to understand them, interact and identify them as friend or foe or neither. It's instinct and you cannot stop it. We are happiest living with our own, working with our own, being ruled by our own. Almost all humans have a territorial sense of "home" that extends far beyond their front door.
For now the nation state seems to be the largest "super-tribe" unit that humans find tolerable. Where, while the people can have slightly different subcultures all over the territory, the following are shared by the overwhelming majority: language, culture (particularly religion) and uncomfortably: race. Historically any time a large imbalance in those three things has appeared within a "super-tribe": war, terrorism, persecution and oppression has arrived to fix the imbalance and either cleanse or split the nation state.
There have been many attempts to unite various super-tribes under one banner, we call it "empire" and until recently this was always done by force. But as soon as the empire shows any weakness, the empire splits into nation-states once more, even if the nation-states have been irreversibly changed under foreign rule. Somehow that tribal territorial identity reemerges, even if it has been centuries.
The architects of the EU and their lefty counterparts in the US know all this, they may be deluded but they aren't completely unintelligent. They too seek to create empire, a global lefty utopia, but they are going about it in a different way. They figure that to have a lasting empire, the entire thing needs to be one race, one culture, one language ie. one super-tribe. I see their logic. The EU is not a friendly club, it is a project with that goal always on the horizon. They seem to have forgotten or put to one side the language side of things for now, but they are going all out on the other two.
They have however, not foreseen two things: firstly they underestimate the native backlash, populist far right parties are popping up all over. The youth of continental Europe are, like jaded police officers, racist in a way that would make Hitler blush. This is happening mainly because of their second failing: the cultures they are importing are much more resistant to the their cultural propaganda, their families are strong, they resist the brainwashing in schools, they aren't hugely interested in intercultural or interracial marriage. In a nutshell, immigrants coming into the EU aren't magically becoming European as soon as the cross the border and what's worse, their children (and this is something of a mystery to me) are somehow even more tribally energised than their parents.
Throw radical Islam into the mix to kick things off and we have the perfect storm of genocidal nativism roaring our way, in all western countries. It's going to be horrific and not directed just against Muslims, but against anyone who can be identified as "non-native" and outspoken members of the Left.
The EU is an attempt to build a larger society, but not more complex in the way you are thinking. It was unique, I grant you, but will be ultimately disastrous and hopefully remembered as such.

This is exactly backwards in every respect. Globalism is about reducing complexity by erasing local and national distinctiveness in the interest of centralized control. The EU, just like the Caliphate and international Communism, is about building a larger simpler central system to make control easier for the controllers at the expense of freedom.

Well, from what I've seen so far, for whatever economic disparities Mr. Blyth saw in the EU, he clearly regards the leave vote as a disaster, in which no political leadership understood the consequences of their actions. A literal leap off a cliff.

Yes, tribalism is an earlier, less civilized, less evolved state for humanity, and far too many people live under systems which are tribal. They are the enemies of civilization. Rational people fight against them. They do not capitulate to them. They do not allow primitives to drag more complex civilization down to their level. Tribalism IS the enemy, and the EU was the least tribal social structure on the planet. Perfect? Far, far from it. Brussels was/is a poor standard bearer for this most advanced social structure. Far too combative. Far too "take it or leave it". Immigration policy was the main sticking point, and they were far too inflexible on that, to me, far too radical policy. There's blame on both sides. It's ironic that people who are attempting to advance the most radical, advanced social structure are so open to immigration from the least, most tribal peoples on the earth. That's nuts to me. You've gotta be careful who you invite to the party. The least evolved will always pull down the most evolved.

Then you shall quickly find all humans are enemies of civilisation. This is dangerous thinking, this is how supposedly utopian societies degenerate into Gulags and purges. All "new" societies designed by intellectuals come up against one problem, to make it work, they must change Man. And Man cannot change quickly enough, if at all. Before you know it you are cramming all these unteachable troglodytes into camps.

Ignore the conclusions about the unknown that are based purely on his political leanings - he's as progressive as progressives get. His understanding of the economic situation as is and as was is first rate. Had we opted to remain within the EU, I have no doubt that it would have eventually come at the expense of the pound in favour of the Euro.

Another "Gloom and Doom" conspiracy piece from the Daily Mail.It was reported elsewhere, no one is disputing that the head of DGSI said what he said, but the mail did make more of a fuss about it than anyone else. Here's the Guardian treating it as though it was said by some stay at home mom on facebook at the end of the article:

Ridiculous. We know the differences between tribal societies and the societies of America and Europe based on Enlightenment principles. Gay people strung up by their genitals, Women suppressed. Intolerance for minorities, both religious and racial. Anyone who claims such conditions are better under tribal cultures than Enlightenment cultures is a liar and a fool.
What we have is fragile, and it is falling apart under the assault of right wing idiots and tribalistic primitives. Apparently that makes you happy. Congratulations. Yes, left wing extremists created the Gulags and right wing extremists their own camps. All extremists are dangerous. French extremists want extremists to rule. Xenophobics. Hate mongers. I don't. The EU doesn't represent that threat, Le Pen does. Do you support Le Pen, and a further dissolution of the EU?

You misunderstand me, when I say we are all tribal I don't mean literally tribal societies living in the jungle terrorising each other, I'm saying we have just changed the nature of the tribe, not abolished it. You can tweak the nature of the tribe all you want, but you can only go so far. You certainly cannot erase the tribal impulse, that would be like trying to erase our sex drive.

The Left have created Le Pen and similar movements, they are the inevitable result of the bubbling tensions mass immigration creates. Yes I want the EU gone and the Left kicked back to universities where they belong and out of power forever. They are a menace, it's like watching morons put a tiger in a cage with a sleeping lion and then being "utterly shocked and dismayed" when they rip each other to shreds and set the cage on fire.
If they survive the carnage, they have the absolute audacity to blame the Right who told them not to put the tiger in the cage to begin with.

France is on the verge of a 'civil war' which could be sparked by the mass sexual assault of women by migrants similar to the one seen in Cologne on New Year's Eve, the country's head of intelligence has said.
He believes the situation is so tense and fragile that another major Islamist terror attack or mass migrant sexual assault could lead to a huge right-wing backlash.
Patrick Calvar, chief of the Directorate General of Internal Security, told members of the French parliamentary commission: 'We are on the brink of civil war'.
According to French newspaper Le Figaro, he said: 'This confrontation I think it will take place.
'Even one or two attacks and it will happen. It therefore behooves us to anticipate and block all these groups.'
Wake up and smell the ashes of liberalism in Europe.

This guy sounds like a typical establishment piece of s***. The so-called 'far right' represent the interests of the native people of France. The Muslims in France are interlopers. The traitors and enemy aliens in the French government let these Muslims in, and all the predictions that the so called 'far right' have been making for years are coming true. But this establishment turd won't admit that the 'far right' were correct and that the French establishment had helped to cause this mess. So he pretends that Islamic terrorists and the 'far right' are two similar groups of extremists who had somehow materialised in France by magic and that brave estalishment figures like him are going to try to protect everyone if the people would just let him have more power. What a joke.
