I think people will tend to favour any one of three possibilities:

-it can't possibly be true
-it can't possibly be untrue
-it might be true or false though there is insufficient proof to draw any conclusion

Trump supporters will probably go with number one, automatically, as an expression of loyalty;
People who would never vote for Trump under any circumstance will probably lean more toward number two;
and we oddballs who regard the current USA tussle for presidency with outsider astonishment will probably go with number three.

It's based completely on nothing besides the fact that she's a woman and Eastern European, there is no question of whether or not it is true or false even to the people saying it as they are saying it to be hurtful because they dislike Donald rather than some genuine belief in it.

Well maybe we will know one way or another if some real evidence either way unfolds. Another question hangs over the credibility of the claim that MT graduated from a particular educational institution:

Some of us are not arguing about whether it's true or not, but what we are trying to argue is that it shouldn't matter and this gaffe is a derogatory, holding Eastern European women to a stereotype and it was intended as such most likely due to discontent for the Republican nominee.

There is no way this would sit well with liberals if such a remark were made about a Democratic nominee's wife and they would be swift to beat down the perceived sexism, racism, xenophobia and ignorance with a heavy heavy stick of virtue.

So why are people ignoring this now? Is it only sexist, racist, xenophobic et. al when it's against people that agree with a certain viewpoint? This is the hypocrisy being pointed out by posters here, and to completely avoid that argument as if it wasn't there then try and validate the OP is a bit insulting if you ask me. We shouldn't be asking these sorts of questions on this forum. How would it be in any way acceptable if we asked the same thing about our fellow Aspies and their wives when they tell us they got married to a lady from another country?

Ultimately, it was his, and her decision to come out to the public after all her husband said and end up reading Michelle Obama's speech... so, whether people are using stereotypes or not now the fact is that she didn't decide to stay private and people naturally question the content of her speech and the possible reason to marry someone who, supposedly, hates immigrants taking jobs... not that writing that speech was much of one... there is just so much hypocrisy between them it needs to be highlighted.

I don't think it has anything to do with xenophobia or misogyny.

People are trying to make sense of this unlikely pair. Many people see Donald Trump as an unattractive a**hole with no good qualities other than money and "success" and they see him with this beautiful woman 20 years younger and the brains can't comprehend the appeal. So the natural conclusion is well it must be the money or the power. And I don't really blame someone for making this choice but it is difficult to understand. And it's in the back of everyone's minds. For Trump's supporters who are so adamantly anti-PC it's funny they don't talk about this because you know are they thinking it.

I don't have anything in particular against Melania. I just think, if this rumor was actually true, it would just reinforce how shallow Trump is. He just wants a hot 30-year old, that's really what it comes down to in the end. She is like a prize to him. And she is perhaps taking advantage of him but which one looks worse in this scenario? It's open to interpretation.

She's a legal immigrant and trump is only looking to curb illegal immigration.
He very much supports the idea of outsiders patriotic to the American way coming in and living in the US.

I'm guessing that (along with the fact that she's hot European woman over 20 years his junior) is what Trump saw in Melania whatever she saw in him...LOL who knows but I think anyone looking at their marriage rather than their ability to run the country needs to get their priorities straight. Trophy wife, rich husband, mail order, objectifier, whatever. All irrelevant when it comes to steering a ship.

Oh good God, who CARES!?!?

We could very realistically get stuck with this man, who makes us all look tactful and socially skilled and practices a brand of capitalism so cutthroat it makes my wealth-worshipping Republican friends cringe, as our President.

The alternative is Hillary Clinton, who has already shown us that she holds us in utter contempt, considered herself above the law, and sees the American people as nothing more than voting, tax-paying livestock.

Don't y'all think we might have bigger fish to fry than how he acquired his current wife and how many women he's been double-dipping on??
