Trump, Hillary, SJW/Feminists, I DON'T FREAKING KNOW!
^ Didn't say feminism was "extremist." I said "extremists," which may or may not be feminists.

Why?
Why is there such widespread fascination with political statements made on YouTube by random self-important brutes, windbags, quacks, ingrates, wretches, chatterboxes, schmucks, churls, miscreants, blowhards, calumniators, shysters, rabble-rousers, braggarts, ne'er-do-wells, ruffians, dilettantes, pretenders, jerks, crooks, nincompoops, layabouts, boors, charlatans, degenerates, knaves, creeps, profligates, wastrels and other individuals of questionable moral fiber?
You mean why listen to viewpoints that may differ from yours and even one another, rather than calling people an (admittedly impressive) array of names?
I for one primarily follow Honey Badger Radio. I find their ability to disagree with eachother and have a nuanced discussion free of shouting, as well as their willingness to invite people with differing stances from all over the political spectrum to be rather refreshing.

Don't be so shy there Viper. Tell us how you really feel.
Iirc, you're referring to all types of YouTube commentators, not just this particular flavour, yes? I suppose you could make a separate thread to talk to those of us here who watch such videos. But a lot of these Youtubers have Patreons now, and the people who fund these might be the people who would interest you the most.

Me? I just needed an excuse to use the word "calumniator" in a sentence...
But think about it... these YouTube commentaries are often....
- The opinions of a single individual who represents no-one but him/herself
- The opinions of someone with no demonstrable expertise/credentials on the subject under discussion
I have no problem with YouTube as long as people recognize it as a medium of entertainment...
But when one out of the 7 billion people on this planet spends 2 minutes figuring how to record a video, 1 minute figuring out how to upload it on YouTube and 30 seconds coming up with an on-line name that was lame and overused back when going from EGA to VGA was the frontier of computer performance standards... then I fail to see why his/her political views are worthy of more attention than the views of the average consumer standing in line next to me in the supermarket...
Indeed, I laugh at anyone thinking that they've not 'closed' their minds by simply pursuing a linear approach online, when social media or hosts like YT work by just reinforcing opinions, as this isn't a variety of videos by default. More than a billion videos exist on YT, yet people like KMB6167 flatter themselves in thinking they're widening their horizons if they even watch a few hundred...

Well, I think you might be overcomplicating things. If you listen to someone talking and you like what you hear, you're going to want to hear more. YouTube is simply far more efficient at putting someone's word out than engaging someone at a supermarket. Over time if you spend time there, you're going to pick up favourites. Nobody started with me having more credibility than that average person in the supermarket, it was earned over time. I don't care if someone has a bazillion subscribers and videos or just a handful.
These kinds of YouTube personalities can be quite entertaining in their own right as well, but there's no reason why we can't or shouldn't have serious content on YouTube also.
These YouTube people can build up networks of people to help them that individuals can't, and become much better sources of information than you could be on your own. It's just a matter then of if what they're informing you of is of interest to you.

Thank you.
One of the reasons I've largely lost interest in online debating (a former hobby of mine) is it seems kids these days would rather just link to some random a$$hat on YouTube rather than formulating their own arguments, or performing their own research.
The, "but this guy on YouTube says....." -style argument holds absolutely no water with me.
