This reminds me a little of the Milgram experiment where they saw how far people would go to obey a figure of authority even if it meant inflicting pain upon another human.

I would never! Can't live with that guilt. If I did it, I'd probably end up killing myself shortly afterwards.

This reward scheme is somewhat flawed. By spending any amount of money would be beneficial towards mankind. Even the $10. The sales will accrue a tax thus enabling the government to spend it.

To truely be of no benefit to humanity, you'd have to live of the interest - thus leaving enough of a lump sum to force humanity to find the interest.
