Meh we're just clowning around. But you're right, back to the topic!

Executive orders are subject to oversight--including judicial oversight.

We are fortunate that we have strong "checks and balances" in place.

There are plenty of suits being filed on behalf of the refugees. And if anybody tries to stop people from making suits, all hell would break loose. Even Trump knows this.

I think a decent point was made previously, in fact.

It is possible that Obama "stretched" the parameters of when an executive order can be issued.

Yet I suspect Trump believes executive orders are royal decrees.

And what is it he wants to do, hand the country over to conservative Christian fundies and act like he's a king?

I think he is trying to push the limits of executive power in order to establish a more dictatorial rule.

I agree. He is trying to see "how far he can go."

His temperament is well-suited to authoritarianism.

Oh, Bush 43 started that, and the liberals howled about the new "imperial presidency", including a certain junior senator from Illinois, who then seemed to come around on the idea once he got his hands on the presidential pen, along with the rest of the liberals, while the GOP decried the "new" executive overreach. Now, the chickens have come home to roost, in a much more spectacular fashion than even I might have imagined, and the parties get to switch places again.

I think they will work.

But I still HOPE that our system of Checks and Balances work.

I have no idea what he wants to do outside of what he's said he wants to do in his speeches. He seems like more of a hedonist than a fundie to me, but I think there's a possibility that liberalism is going to start waning. Trump has always been pompous I don't think that's ever going to change.

I think that's a very accurate analysis. Trump being called a dictator doesn't carry much impact with me considering I know how many zillions of times the last president was called a dictator. Like you say, it's the other side's turn now to become dominant. The left is just going to have to suck it up. I'm not giving approval or disapproval, just saying that's the way it is as I see it.

Globe & Mail: Trump fires acting attorney-general over defiance on refugee ban

Quote:
Ms. Yates sent a letter on Monday to Justice Department lawyers in which she questioned Mr. Trump’s executive order. Hours later, Mr. Trump named her replacement: Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Ms. Yates “betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States,” the White House said in a statement. “It is time to get serious about protecting our country.”

Trump has no respect for anyone.

From what I gathered the doj vetted his orders beforehand much like did obama. So she wasn't disregarding his orders on any legal grounds but just being an obama left over. She there violated her duties and orders and was removed. Obama removed anyone who disagreeed with his orders also. First 4 years was obama cleaning house. I'm frankly surprised any obama appointed people were left in power . They just going undermined trump at any time as their so political biased. Something government officials shouldn't be. Especially the attorney general.
