Man, this Sean Spicer is an absolute moron. I thought he meant Hitler didn't use chemical weapons on the battlefield, like many people thought, but no. Of course Hitler didn't use chemical weapons on Germans, he wasn't fighting Germans! And yet this still opens him back up to criticism due to the gassing of German Jews, among others. As for holocaust centers, I thought he was referring to central locations where it happened, but now I don't know! :?

I don't think he is a Holocaust denier either, but his choice of words was so unfortunate. He was trying to say that Assad was worse than Hitler, which is probably not the best plan on Passover, but still, a good motive. He screwed up because he got his history wrong.

Spicer said Hitler did not use chemical weapons against his own people, which is incorrect. The whole comparison is ill conceived. It doesn't matter if Assad is as bad as Stalin, Hitler, Hussein, whoever, Assad is bad.

This is the first time I have ever heard the phrase Holocaust Centre. I'm not sure why Spicer felt the need to make up a new phrase for concentration camp; it's like he was trying to sanitize it.

Spicer should stick to the script.

I think he got caught off script and couldn't quite reach the most common phrase so desperately improvised one that conveyed the meaning but was a bit embarrassing.

I once forgot the word for someone who rides on a bus (passenger) and ended up saying "participant".

Difference was that I was a 16 year old doing a GCSE Drama assessment, and Spicer is the PR guy for the President of the United States.

Say what you will about Obama, but the guy was very well spoke, he stuck to his scripts, and when he went off script, he was generally good at speaking without inflaming tensions. There are a few gaffes - "we tortured some folks" - but fewer in eight years than Spicer, Trump, and Conway have managed in a little over eight weeks.

Trump needs to give control to someone who knows how to manage the media and can give a press conference without causing an international incident.

Now, on Syria, I think air strikes were the correct cause of action. Perhaps there are some hoops that should have been jumped through first, but the US should have started fighting Assad a long time ago, probably after they finished with Gaddaffi or else when he first used chemical weapons. Libya is pretty messed up but it's in much better shape than Syria. Learn from the mistakes of Iraq by intervening well, not by never intervening at all.

Well probably, what did people expect electing a loose cannon like that? like he would be a great diplomat or something?

In this case america, you get what you freaking elected...a big loose cannon of a spoiled brat, and his supporters are actually surprised? that is the funniest most hilarious part of the whole thing...They are suprised he acted recklessly and stupidly in regards to Syria....I mean what the hell did they expect?

I think it was a stupid thing to say and poorly said, during Passover of all times. Spicer and Conway both have severe foot in mouth disease. However, I think that in itself is bad enough, without the media adding embellishments and hyperbole to it.

I'm not so sure about the airstrike yet, but what you're saying sounds reasonable to me. It's like the Middle East thing has been going on forever though. There's always some despot we're supposed to be bombing over there.

Yeah I don't think his motives were really the problem as much as him saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Personally I think he was flubbing more than trying to make up new terminology. But never should have started down that road in the first place. I think he's had to backpedal too many times already. Both Spicer and Conway are facepalm poster child.

Well are we making america 'great' again? lol its like one controversy after another, I mean trump getting elected for one, the united airlines incident with the Chinese doctor, this whole Syria thing, Trying to bully Mexico into paying for that stupid idea of a wall, trying to release all the national forests and such to endless fracking and coal mining.....what, where's my job and my money? I would think in a greater america there would be abundant employment for anyone so much so that they could eliminate disability and all financial assistance programs for the poor. And reasonable things like guaranteed days off, vacations, time off for families with babies that want to spend a wee bit of time at home with them...and just people who need a freaking break from endless work from time to time. Why is that only a thing for the wealthy? Everyone else just gets to struggle and our generation is lucky if there's any 'retirement funds' left when'we're 85 and sh*****g all over the next generation, by having more or less passively let the country become what it is.

Bus participant. That's funny, but it captures the meaning. I've come up with some word salads myself. But I agree with you that Spicer is in a powerful position, so his salads have more impact. He misspeaks, gets facts wrong and can't pronounce Assad. It's embarrassing.

I feel bad for Spicer. I think he is in an impossible position. How can he get on the same page as Trump, when Trump keeps flipping through the book like it's a choose-your-own-adventure?
I do think that it is time for him to go though. He's made some serious gaffs, but this one showed an ignorance of a very important fact - that Hitler did use chemical weapons. Why Spicer went down that path in the first place is confusing. Why compare tyrants? I can only think that the comparison was meant to lay the groundwork for all out war with Syria.

It now seems like this could be fair comment. Trump's hardline stances on North Korea and China have brought us closer to nuclear war than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis. With President Hollande a lame duck and Prime Minister May absorbed by her domestic crisis, there's no obvious US-allied nuclear leader with anywhere near the acumen of Kennedy. Perhaps Chancellor Merkel or Prime Minister Abe could help navigate the crisis but Germany and Japan have less active roles in world affairs after their defeats in WWII and they're not major military powers.

no.
psychopaths feed on indecision and reticence to act.

so ill sung (or whatever) may originate a nuclear conflict if his bluster is to be taken seriously.

so better to nip it in the bud.
i know. that sort of action may cause a calamity, but if left grow strong, may result in an apocalypse.

on another note, the ordnance called "the mother of all bombs" should not have that name because it indicates that that is the maximum non nuclear strike capacity of the US.

better to leave people wondering whether you have something bigger "up your sleeve"

if kim jong un is explicitly targeted and assassinated (got to be a bit careful here), then i am sure the general population will be overjoyed.

he has to be felled. i am sure that there is no genetic disposition in north koreans to desire separation from the world and to welcome hardship and ignorance.

that moab that was dropped in the infrastructure in afghanistan may or may not curtail the thrust of ISIS, but it is too early to tell.

i maintain that the russians would be flexing their muscles much more fervently if they really desired the status quo to remain.

Yes I do think he is a danger to the world, but Trump voters knew all of this before they elected him so I guess they are mostly happy with his NK threatening and bomb dropping.

NK needs sorting, but tht should be via diplomacy and China.

With the Syrian missile strikes he initiated. I don't really like Assad, but I think it may have taken interventionism too far as for what price we would have to pay for it. I think this could be it-the end of the world. The strike is also interpreted as a warning to North Korea, I don't know if we should risk by poking Kim Jung Un in the face. I hate Kim Jung Un, don't take that the wrong way. I don't think we should be poking the hornet's nest. And Trump declared that he will act unilaterally against China and pre-emptively intervene in North Korea. Welcome to World War 3 guys. I hope things don't go down really bad and we head in the nuclear direction.

What do you think? Will we be nuked to ashes? Or something else?

To be blunt - yes. I think it's a distinct possibility. That's why I have what I call my "armageddon stash" of amitriptyline in the cupboard - so that if there is a nuclear attack on the UK and I survive the initial blast I can finish myself off quickly. I have no interest in surviving a nuclear war.
