If I were to put my mind to something productive on that?

I think we should do everything we can to help the African countries who are moving toward 1st world status, help them organize into national blocks and federations so that they can establish commerce. Also, if we're to pay any reparations for colonialism, I think it should be in science and education.

Two reasons why think that road is the best 1) It takes the Mother Theresa/Bill Gates factor out of the way, ie helping them establish their own base, 2) it also helps stem the tide of Islamism into places like Nigeria and the DRC/former Zaire 3) if Africa becomes covered in success stories those places become the place to go rather than these people trying to make their way across Libya.

Ya coulda said it in just four words: Try to industrialize Africa.

Or, you coulda said the same thing this way: beats me! Lets just keep doing the same ol same ole that were already doing.

Even if it weren't the same ole same ole it would take decades to have any effect. Doesn't help the situation right now.

I like to unpack implications and explain reasoning, also to some extent 'how' which is focusing on maybe a half dozen countries who are ready to push farther. Technically China is already doing this to some degree, the west just needs to keep moving.

The other part 'industrialize' just means move in a bunch of automation. IT-ize and financialize Africa would be more like it.


Or put another strong man in power similar to Gaddafi, or just watch with interest and do nothing. I'd really be stunned if Washington DC took any ownership of this either way - they never do. Also, for immediate results say in the next five years I've pretty much listed off the options. Drone bombing is pretty doubtful aside from just looking both ruthless and gutless at the same time.


Or maybe a decade. It's already been ramping up so we wouldn't be starting something from scratch and the cost-benefit analysis for someone trying to take a run at Libya would shift well before sub-Saharan Africa became Europe 2.0 - unless you mean decades to gather the political will and yeah, that is a possibility.
