FACT: Some Muslims will refer to the time before Islam as "the time of ignorance".

I fail to see how "ignorant" people could have invented agriculture, civilisation and mathematics.

It makes me feel sick whenever I hear about Islamic extremists trying to erase all traces of the pre-Islamic Middle East. For example, the jerks in ISIS like to smash old Mesopotamian artifacts ... though many pre-Islamic artifacts were destroyed throughout Islamic history.

It's sad reading about the current state of Iran. Zoroastrianism - the religion of the mighty Persian Empire - has been reduced to a tiny religious minority. The Islamic majority will often stereotype Zoroastrians as "fire worshippers".

Iran isn't going to climb out of its rut if it keeps dismissing everything that made the Persian Empire great. The entire Middle East will not recover as long as they continue to dismiss Babylonians, Sumerians and Ancient Egyptians as "vile Iblis worshippers".

Something to Ponder: Many of the women who live in Egypt right now may be related to Cleopatra.

Whenever I read about the ancient Middle East, I think "I want that back."

Hate to break it to you, but the real Cleopatra did not look anything like Elizabeth Taylor.

Iran and their cronies are getting more ret*d every day and increasingly resembling ISIS and Sunni fundamentalism; it seems they caught something from ISIS while fighting them for years.

This is sad, so sad.

I've also noticed that many of these Jihadists have a very poor understanding of Islamic history.

For example, a lot of these Jihadists want to restore the Ottoman Empire. Apparently, they don't realize that homosexual intercourse was legal in the Ottoman Empire. They also don't seem to realize that several ethnic groups (including Arabs) were mistreated by the Ottoman Turk establishment.

A lot of them also want to restore the older Islamic Caliphates. They don't seem to realize that the old Islamic Caliphates were tolerant of Christianity and Judaism. In fact, many historians use the phrase "Arab conquests" instead of "Islamic conquests" because so many people who fought for the Caliphates were Christians.

In other words, the "Make the Middle East great again." crowd understand their own history about as well as the "Make America great again." crowd understand their own history.

I'm very sad about it too. I try not to watch the news because i get depressed that such beautiful countries are in such a shape. It's very hard to compare middle east with the western world since even before Islam, government was never secular and it was always very authoritarian. Part of the problem is that there are so many different cultures and ethnicities in middle east and without a culture of democracy and individualism it's very hard to get along. Despite that i think we've made a lot of progress ( certain countries at least)

Why not?

Well … the most brutal dictatorship in the region is Saudi Arabia. Most Western leaders consider Saudi Arabia to be completely innocent because the West is addicted to Saudi oil.

Benjamin Netanyahu also has the Western stamp of approval … and the Saudi Royal stamp of approval.

The Middle East will continue to suffer until Western leaders acknowledge that Benjamin Netanyahu and the Saudi Royal family are guilty of human rights abuses.

How long will this take? Who knows?

The situation in Iran is especially tragic because the country used to be a secular state. Before that, It was the glorious Persian Empire, which nearly conquered Greece during ancient times.

Also, it was the Persian emperor Cyrus who freed the Biblical Jews from captivity.
