During this study of nihilism on line, it occurred to me how negative most people seem to be about this intellectual construct...
It occurred to me that a nihilistic philosophy can be a separate component to the initial depressive reality of the nonsense of life...
Cognitive dissonance can be a very uncomfortable experience, but it is usually a temporary/transitional discomfort until either:
A. The individual recoils and retreats away from the discomfort...
Or...
B. The individual works through the disorienting and emotionally difficult process, as would Nietzsche's Ubermensch...
So what is the effect on those who can break through this philosophical/emotional barrier?
Perhaps some might feel betrayed and angry that they have been living a lie...that they have been deceived...that they have been thrust into a situation not of their choosing...
Perhaps some might view the death of a philosophical viewpoint in a similar manner as a death of a family member...
Perhaps the loss of a sense of meaning in life could initiate some of the stages of grief...
Denial, anger, depression and acceptance...
When/if acceptance has been reached, a philosophical metamorphosis is possible...
One can morph from a philosophical ground dweller into an individual who's neo-weltanschauung propels them into a world full of possibilities not governed by social indoctrination, superstitions, obligations and arbitrary psychological/philosophical limitations...
It opens the floodgate of intellectual considerations while removing the yoke of cognitive mediocrity...
It allows a recalibration away from an ego based existence, concerned with social status and materialism, to a more pragmatic and considered mode of living...
Nihilism doesn't have to cause and sustain a depressive mind-set...
Really, it is a matter of choice...surely...
