Suicide is illegal because it is murder.

Attempted suicide is attempted murder.

Planning to commit suicide is planning to commit murder.

Assisting in a suicide is assisting in a murder.

Plain and simple.

And yet it's perfectly legal to drive somebody into commiting suicide but illegal to make somebody else murder another person for you.

It allows insurance companies to not have to pay money to a family for a family member who committed suicide.

No suicide isn't a criminal offense. It is treated as a disorder when you attempt it.

Assisted suicide is illegal in many places. It's seen as murder is why. Some places like Oregon that do allow this is only for those who are terminally ill. It is not for someone who is depressed.

Reason why people are not allowed to commit suicide is because it's a mental illness and they are not rational and they just need help. Anyone who wants to commit suicide has more going on. Yeah there are people who just talk about it for attention and manipulation like an abuser will use it to keep their partner from leaving them or use it to control their child. But we all have to realize you are never responsible for someone's death and if someone threatens suicide, direct them to a hotline or something or tell them to get a therapist to help them with their suicidal thoughts. Make it backfire.

Illegal in what year and what country?

Some things that should be legal, are illegal

And vice versa

And "should" according to whom?

Yes you do not end up in jail, but if you try to kill yourself and fail to do so, the police will come and send you to a psych ward.

Mandated Reporter law

United States

While I do not claim to know "why" suicide is illegal, (I propose that) maybe the reason is because attempting and or succeeding at suicide, sometimes puts innocent bystanders at risk

For example, the bullet could ricochet or misfire and strike someone else

If someone jumps out of a building, they could land on someone else and injure them

That is just a proposal. Since I am not telepathic, I do not know the reasoning behind the politician that wrote that law

If you resist they will arrest you and treat you like a criminal who just murdered someone. So why exactly is suicide not really legal? Why do they try to keep you alive at all costs?

Cost benefit analysis

It does not make sense to me

Maybe it has to do with, as long as you are alive, you have to pay them money, for medical bills

(Just a proposal)

Even when you are a hopeless case?

"Hopeless" according to whom?

You can't measure "hope,"

False hope

And even if there is "hope", it could be unreasonable or unrealistic

People sometimes overestimate or underestimate hope

What do you personally think? Is it right when the government tries to keep hopeless suicidal people alive at all costs?

No, and it is a waste of time, money and energy.

Should assisted suicide be illegal in all cases?

No and there is no method to enforce succeses. Someone might fail, and nobody finds out

Should it be legal?

Yes

And maybe even be available for depressed people?

After some meds and psychotherapy, if desired, yes sir. Yes ma'am. Yes gender non-conforming people

Should Suicide be made generally harder, or easier for people?

Easier, overpopulation

Some people write, that they want to commit suicide, but they do not because their family and friends

But everyone is going to drop dead sooner or later, its just the technique and sequence

And if they really "care" about family and friends, they can consider, carbon footprint, and give them inheritance

Is it really ethical to not let people die who want to die?

Just my stupid lil opinion, but someone's life is their property and not vandalism, murder

Kraftie kortie

Circumstances at 20 could be better, the same, or equal to the ones at 19

The chances are not the same for each outcome

And if it gets better, how much better?.

A "waste" of what?

Besides, pollution is already a "waste"

There are many people that do not commit suicide, and do not do "great" things

What is the definition of "great things"?

The "great things" do not necessarily justify the suffering

Cost benefit analysis

If capital punishment is legal, (in what year and what country), it does not make sense that suicide is illegal

Someone that wants to commit suicide, could just get convicted of a capital felony

:D

That bottom statement isn't always true. There are narcissists out there who will bully and drive a person into wanting to kill themselves. Those type of people should be blamed in my opinion.

It is not illegal in the UK, and that is one reason why Samaritans can do such good work.

I can't imagine a more ridiculous law than making suicide illegal. Are people who no longer wish to be in this world going to think, "Well, it's illegal. I don't want to be a lawbreaker. I guess I'd better stick around and be miserable for another 20 years."

Yeah, we're going to stop people from killing themselves by passing a law against it.

And what better way to stop a miserable human being from killing themselves than to punish them as a criminal for wanting to do it? Dat logic...

You just answered your own question. That law is there to prevent and stop people from killing themselves, but not specifically to punish them. Suicide is on the rise and high suicide rates contribute to economic and social problems.

I get the reasoning, but by that same token: if you cause an accident that kills only yourself, are you then guilty of manslaughter?

maybe it has to do with, failed suicide attempts often involve $$ bills.

maybe someone profits, financially or otherwise, by having the maximum number of precious lil "people" alive for the longest amount of time. (who, i have no clue.)

someone told me that a psychologist sent her to 5150 (united states). and the insurance billed her $$$. so maybe someone earns $$ for the Involuntary Psychiatric Hold. (staff, etc).

maybe whoever made suicide illegal, wrongfully assumed that someone suicidal would be more likely (than otherwise) to also be homicidal.

someone that has gotten sent to 5150 can't join the military, police, firefighter, or CIA or similiar jobs.

:D

it's the intention. an "accident" is an "accident", regardless of outcome.

"Suicide is on the rise and high suicide rates contribute to economic and social problems."

whose economic or social problems?

people that attempt and fail at suicide often get $$ bills. that could put their family in economic problems. however, the professionals that provide the medical and legal services, get helped, by getting more jobs.

overpopulation

carbon footprint

"There are narcissists out there who will bully and drive a person into wanting to kill themselves. Those type of people should be blamed in my opinion."

some states have "bullycide" laws.

:D

anyways it does not make sense, b/c everyone is going to drop dead sooner or later. why should it matter, to the government, when someone dies, or what method?

A person who causes an accident in which another person is killed may be found guilty of negligent manlaughter. Hence the question.

Suicide is illegal because it's the murdering of a human being, regardless of who the human is. All human life is protected under the law in the same way that abortion is usually illegal, and euthanasia isn't generally allowed.

Life matters, so all life matters.

Especially if the government can tax it or exploit it in some way. If not they pretty much view human life as worthless. Why do you think we fight wars and have executions? Those lives that the government kills aren't valued.

I agree again! I'm just stating the reasons why it's illegal.
