In what universe?

Vaping might be a better choice...
But then again:

But then again, again:
It's probably better than the alternative...

I don't think banning would be effective, it would harm the people who are already addicted to cigarettes. I think promoting harm reduction like switching from smoking to vaping is a better approach.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about tobacco smoking bans indoors. It's probably a good thing in the long run. Though it irks me that the argument was won by panicky, shrill, militant not-around-me anti-smokers overblowing the dangers of second hand smoke with the now-familiar tool of "activist science". We now know, just as non-smoking related lung conditions are on the increase, that just walking around a city with heavy traffic does far more damage to your lungs than someone lighting up next to you. If only the same militants could get cars restricted in similar ways...

Vaping is a weird one. I've caught a faceful of vape a few times. It's usually something like a sweet sticky strawberry smell. In fact, the vape seems really thick and sticky to me... it may not have all the carcinogens, toxins and tar, but I still don't think it can do your lungs much good. I've also seen vapers fiercely chugging away, far more heavily than smokers chug, which may cancel out some of the"not so harmful" effects. Sometimes you can just see a pair of eyeballs staring out from a thick miasma of vape.

I sense, Pepe, you are trying to goad me into a white-hot argument about a subject I don't much care about. Probably because I indirectly implied you were shrill. I think it is fine for me to criticise the methods of a political campaign without necessarily disliking the outcome. The second hand smoke furore paved the way for a host of other low-information, emotionally charged political campaigns infested by PR men.

Nope...

I don't support banning smoking entirely, but I'm not opposed to banning it in public spaces and certain areas.

I do think the language used in reference to cigarette smokers could be harsher though. If you are smoking several cigarettes a day and can't go without doing so, you're not just a "smoker", you're a tobacco addict, the same way you would be an alcoholic if it was alcohol instead, or a cannabis addict if it was cannabis.

I don't like cigarette smoke. I know cigarette smoking leads to really bad things.

But people have the right to smoke. I don't believe an outright ban would work.

It would, probably, create a new "black market" for criminals to profit from.

No, don't be a dick.

Dear God prohibition is so whiny.

You're not talking about your own bodies so drop it.

One of the evil ones here, a smoker.I agree no smoking in restaurants, offices etc..I get people can get sick from my secondhand smoke. Also I ask people if it’s ok to light up around them,it’s just polite to do so.
I also hate it when people toss butts put the window or on the ground. No excuse for that.
There is already a black market for them,MO has the cheapest cigs around so people buy loads of them and resell in another state with high taxes on tobacco.
Plus if it’s outlawed people will just grow it.
I started when I was a teen, it gave me something to do with my hands in public instead of fidget.
