Olly probably misspelled the title of the thread.
He probably meant "automation" and democracy.
And not "automaton[s], and democracy".
My guess is that he is suggesting that automation promotes democracy. Machines take over tasks once relegated to slaves, or to other second class categories of citizens (serfs, share croppers, etc). And in effect make us all into aristocrats. Ergo spreading democracy.
And, though in short run technological break throughs can sometimes promote inequality, and tyranny, over the long haul automation does tend work in favor of equality and democracy. Or that's my humble opinion.
