Du hast. The neo-Nazi anthem? I think not.
<chuckle>
You have obviously misunderstood the thread's intent and its content.
I suggest you re-read the posts.
My understanding is that Rammstein is quite an old band.
During those years it is reasonable to assume their public position may have changed as a result of their transition from a struggling band to a worldwide sensation.
To be clear, I am a huge fan of Rammstein.
After winning a contest for amateur bands, Rammstein were able to record demos and send them to different record labels; they were eventually signed by Motor Music. Working with producer Jacob Hellner, they released their debut album Herzeleid in 1995. Though the album sold poorly, the band gained popularity through their live performances. Their rise led to the release of their second album, Sehnsucht, two years later. It debuted at No. 1 in Germany, resulted in a worldwide tour lasting nearly four years, and spawned the successful singles "Engel" and "Du hast" as well as the live album Live aus Berlin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein
I'm not responding directly to you, just the general idea that they're nationalists.
Oh, I see where you are coming from now.
To be clear to others:
I started the thread.
My intention was to poo-poo the idea that they had an affinity with neo-Nazism.
I am expressly saying they are not fascist.
To the contrary, they are on the opposite side of the political spectrum.
Pax.

Big fan of Rammstein
Not a native German speaker but understood Du Hast does play on words to appear like one of Hitler's speeches in order to ridicule the blind groupthink that is symptomatic of neo-Nazis
Neo-Nazis are dumb "facks", members of the alt-right were using Taylor Swift's music as examples of pure white American music until she performed/recorded "Shake it Off" and threw support behind the Democrats ![]()
Rammstein video furore: Far-right clickbait or anti-fascist art?
Here they reject fascism.
Instead, this latest clip seems to continue a pattern of provocation as the concentration camp henchmen are finally rounded up and shot by the prisoners. Here, Till Lindemann sings "Germany, my heart in flames, I want to love and condemn you" ("Deutschland, mein Herz in Flammen, will dich lieben und verdammen"). https://www.dw.com/en/rammstein-video-f ... a-48116921
Always provocative.
Yes, ironically the band is politically left wing.
Yes, Rammstein is popular with the alt.right.
I tend to agree.
Impartially speaking, the band is very exploitative, imo
Anything goes to maintain their infamous money-raking entrepreneurial endeavours, so it seems.
Guess who is going to ebay now?
Rammstein
Du (du hast, du hast, du hast, du hast)
Hast viel geweint (geweint, geweint, geweint, geweint)
Dein Atem kalt (so kalt, so kalt, so kalt, so kalt)
Das Herz in Flammen (so heiß, so heiß, so heiß, so heiß)
Du (du kannst, du kannst, du kannst, du kannst)
Ich (ich weiß, ich weiß, ich weiß, ich weiß)
Wir (wir sind, wir sind, wir sind, wir sind)
Ihr (ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt, ihr bleibt)
Deutschland, mein Herz in Flammen
Will dich lieben und verdammen
Deutschland, dein Atem kalt
So jung, und doch so alt
Deutschland!
Ich (du hast, du hast, du hast, du hast)
Ich will dich nie verlassen (du weinst, du weinst, du weinst, du weinst)
Man kann dich lieben (du liebst, du liebst, du liebst, du liebst)
Und will dich hassen (du hasst, du hasst, du hasst, du hasst)
Überheblich, überlegen
Übernehmen, übergeben
Überraschen, überfallen
Deutschland, Deutschland über allen
Deutschland, mein Herz in Flammen
Will dich lieben und verdammen
Deutschland, dein Atem kalt
So jung, und doch so alt
Deutschland, deine Liebe
Ist Fluch und Segen
Deutschland, meine Liebe
Kann ich dir nicht geben
Deutschland!
Du
Ich
Wir
Ihr
Du (übermächtig, überflüssig)
Ich (Übermenschen, überdrüssig)
Wir (wer hoch steigt, der wird tief fallen)
Ihr (Deutschland, Deutschland über allen)
Deutschland, mein Herz in Flammen
Will dich lieben und verdammen
Deutschland, dein Atem kalt
So jung, und doch so alt
Deutschland, deine Liebe
Ist Fluch und Segen
Deutschland, meine Liebe
Kann ich dir nicht geben
Deutschland!

Englisch translation.
I can't verify its accuracy at this stage:
In the mind apart
In the heart united
We have been together for a very long time
Your breath is cold
The heart in flames
You
I
Us
You (plural)
Germany
My heart in flames
want to love you want to damn you
Germany
Your breath is cold
so young
and yet so old
Germany
I
I never want to leave you
One want to love you
and want to hate you
Overbearing (arrogant)
Superior
to take over (i think this is the only proper way to translate this in context here)
to surrender (giving away, can also be read as throwing up)
Surprising
to attack (to assault, raid, invade)
Germany Germany over everyone
Germany
My heart in flames
want to love you want to damn you
Germany
Your breath is cold
so young
and yet so old
Germany
Germany
Your love is a curse and a blessing
Germany
My love i cannot give to you
Germany
Germany
You
I
Us
You (plural)
Superior (super powerful)
Needles (dispensable, a waste)
Übermenschen (pl. of Übermensch, duh)
Sick of (tired, bored)
The higher you climb, the farther you fall
Germany Germany over everyone
Germany
My heart in flames
want to love you want to damn you
Germany
Your breath is cold
so young
and yet so old
Germany
Your love is a curse and a blessing
Germany
My love i cannot give to you

Ahhh I see what Pepe is trying to defend....
https://www.dw.com/en/rammstein-video-f ... a-48116921
Some commentators claim that the Nazi aesthetic will appeal to the band's growing contingent of far-right fans. "Rammstein are a left-wing band that has many right-wing fans. They are adored by Russian neo-Nazis," writes Peter Huth in the national daily, Die Welt.
Rammstein are the pioneering band of the hard rock genre known as Neue Deutsche Härte ("New German Hardness"); even the term for the music genre "reads like the title of a photo book by Leni Riefenstahl," says Huth. Stopping short of accusing the band of encouraging its neo-Nazi disciples, he says Rammstein in this instance has preferred releasing "clickbait" to taking "political responsibility."
I know there's a number of metal bands adored by the far right but that's incidental rather than deliberate intent. For example the band who play the theme music to popular TV series "Vikings" "Wardruna" have become very popular with neo-Nazi skinheads. Wardruna are legitimate artists though and their music is very culturally beautiful.
Slight amendment (before I get corrected) Wardruna music is played during the episodes of Vikings but the the theme song "If I had a Heart" is by Swedish electronic band Fever Ray,
Wardruna's "Way to Hell" or Helvegen is one of the most evocative pieces of music I have evert heard

Strange terminology.
I am not trying to defend anything in regards to the original wording intent.
What I am saying about the original German lyrics is axiomatic.
I am mostly simply pointing out the facts.
I am also hypothesising about the band's motivations.
Others have independently come to the same conclusion. <shrug>
It's head-banging heavy metal (Neue Deutsche Härte ("New German Hardness"))
And the original "Du Hast" was in German.
What else does a neo-Nazi need?
Most aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
