Perhaps, after all I am a mere Westerner.

But even if I read more about it I highly doubt it will change my opinion about how f****d up life gets and that there is no 'divine' explanation for these things.

Most of the time s**t just happens for no reason and if you don't fight against it then it will destroy you.

Sometimes life really is just that simple.

Sometimes it's not just about working for what you want, sometimes it's about fighting to not lose what you already have.

I don’t believe in Divine anything, by the way. I believe in pure cause and effect that involves living in the real world.

I bet you would like Buddhism or Hinduism. And maybe Sikhism (except for their views on hairs and beards).

Other philosophies, too.

Rather than being pissed off all the time.

If you get mad at all that’s happened in history, you might make the same mistakes those historical folks made. Some of the abuses arose because people were pissed off at similar things you are pissed off about.

Not saying you are that type. Just saying that anger is at the root of many abuses.

Anger at Catholics causes a lot of abuses in Ireland, for example. People with Puritan-type sensibilities tended to go fir extreme measures.

And vice versa with the Catholic Queen Mary, who hated Protestants with a passion so that she burned some and hanged others—Bloody Mary!

Me I'm an agonistic omnist. I believe that either all religions are real or not real at all. There is no "one true religion" because every single religion on the planet has changed rules over time since the time they were founded. Many religions, including Christianity, are the result of syncretism (combining more than one religion together).

And if every religion is in fact real, then they must be like peices of a big puzzle. A big humongous puzzle that has peices missing that will never be found.

And frankly I don't like putting puzzles together.

But a lack of anger and a desire to rebel against tyrants like Bloody Mary often leads to being oppressed, enslaved, and/or a victim of genocide.

It's like the symbolism of the rose. It needs both the petals (representing love) and the thorns (representing strength). Those who are kind without strength and courage will be destroyed, and those who are powerful without compassion and empathy will become corrupt.

IOW there comes a time where we all have to stand up for our rights and quit allowing ourselves to be pushed around.

"Karma", in the broadest sense, is simply the result of action -- the effect of a cause.

You may not like the results, but that does not mean that the causal connection isn't there.

Anger motivates people....yes.

But "angry" actions usually lead to not-so-good results----especially when an alternative is available.

How much more results did Martin Luther King obtain than Malcolm X?

King was into "civil disobedience" in the Gandhi sense.

Malcolm X, until he became a mainstream Muslim, was all about "anger."

Thurgood Marshall went the legal, court way to outlaw segregation in the schools. He didn’t take to the streets and riot. Later, he became a Supreme Court Justice.

Sometimes that is true, othertimes it's not.

Yes, people don't always "cause" their own misery - they might just be in the wrong place at the wrong time - same applies to groups of people who just happened to be weaker than a conquering army that came along.

It's true, a lot of "sh***y people" just seem to float through life without ever suffering repercussions for their actions. Perhaps karma isn't always metered out fairly; rather, it's free floating and lands on people randomly, often missing worthy recipients.

In that case I wouldn't consider that to be karma, more like luck.
