Why do most people always seem to be proud of being part of a particular ethnicity, nationality or skin-color, which has NOTHING - absolutely nothing to say about your personal achievements in life, in industry, in economics or anything else you actually contributed with?

I mean, being "proud" of being "American", "Danish", "Chinese", "Turkish" - or whatever that says nothing about YOU is completely and outright STUPID!

So... you're "American" (insert any other nationality, ethnicity or whatever). So what?

What did YOU do/achieve? What is your CONTRIBUTION to the world that makes you any "special"?

When people reply to that question, and tell "I work" or "I made some art" or "I volunteered in..." ethnicity or nationality is completely irrelevant.

Yet nationalism is what they use to justify forced coercion like CONSCRIPTION or the compulsory "swearing an oath" or even compulsory attending church or mosque or whatever.

Nationalism does not make your people free, quite the contrary it makes you suffer unneccssary hardships and even wars.

So can we _PLEASE_ abolish nationalism?

Thank you very much!

You obviously feel deeply about this, but why so angry? People have the right to feel pride and loyalty to their country. No country is without a history of its share of injustices. Yet, we each have an ancestral connection to some country and it is not a crime nor is it STUPID to have a sense of pride in that connection. I am a 3rd generation American whose grandparent were immigrants. I served this country and believe in the foundation of its existence. Many of my personal accomplishments that I am proud of were done in the performance of service to my country.

It's for minorities to feel good about themselves.

Where I work there we have a yearly "pride" march, where ethnic groups march in their native outfits.

We also have racial groups like:
"The society of Hispanic engineers"
"The society of Black engineers"

Where people can be empowered by accomplishments of people who are like them.

I think some of the racial groups such as the ones you mentioned are more for advocacy than pride.
