I voted for Hillary, but I was more gobsmacked by the idea that, of everyone in the U.S., Trump and Hillary were the two options deemed fit for the highest office in the land.

Never has the South Park episode about having the choice between voting for a douche or a turd sandwich been more apt.

Yeah I always thought that a bit lol.

But it's more like Trump is a douche and a turd where as Clinton is pure evil.

Exactly. In fact, during that stressful year of 2016 I would avoid talking politics with near strangers whom I worked with at a temp job, by saying "its a choice between a lady who belongs in an orange jumpsuit, and a guy who belongs in a straightjacket". Regardless of who the other person favored they ALWAYS doubled over laughing and would say "ain't THAT the truth!". Even if they would then add "but I am taking my chances with the man/women in the jumpsuit/straightjacket".
It was one of the few times the thought of voting for either candidate made me feel nauseated. I ended up writing in my own name and voting for myself.

Back to the original point of electability.
Somewhat related to something Cenk was discussing I have seen a number of discussions by anti Trump conservatives talking about Trumps tweets costing him the election. Their thinking is the economy is good a lot of conservatives agree with his key policies, his persona/racism etc is the reason he can’t get above 44 percent approval rating.

Considering the way that his supporters are treated in the media, etc., it wouldn't surprise me if there were a large number who don't answer these types of polls honestly...Most people aren't willing to do something which will make them a potential target, and so will try to "blend in" rather than state their true opinion, particularly to a stranger.

This can be shown by Brexit and the 2016 US election results where the media and those in power were predominantly pushing one side and saying how bad supporters of the other were, resulting in polls which differed considerably from the actual results of the elections/referendums.

The problem with political discourse at present is that you have one side talking down to the other and so leading to conflict, rather than treating the other side as equals and trying to understand why they think as they do and so potentially nudge them towards the "correct" choices. Additionally, some people can get their backs up when told what they "should" do and will go and do the opposite out of spite.

I think this factor is a major part of Trump’s appeal. It is not that this group thinks Trump will make them rich or they like his policies despite his persona. They are very cynical, figure they and Trump are ultimately doomed by the deep state elitist Progressives so they might as well enjoy “owning the libs” as much as they can before the end.

TRUMP was much better at promotion.

Clinton: "America is already great"
TRUMP: "Make America great again".

Clinton: "We will NEVER EVER have single payer health care"
TRUMP: "We will have the best health care ever".

Clinton: *no mention of tax cuts*
TRUMP: MIDDLE CLASS TAX cuts

Clinton: *No amnesty for illegal aliens*
TRUMP: AMNESTY for illegal aliens.

Clinton: Supported ACA Mandate
TRUMP: ELIMINATE the mandate.
