It’s well known that the Gulf of Tonkin thing was mostly BS.

The Gulf of Tonkin incident escalated the situation. After that incident, North Vietnam was bombed. Soon, combat troops were sent to Vietnam.

As both part of the counterculture there was some overlap but Hippies and the “new left” as they were called back then were not synonymous movements. Hippie was a lifestyle movement.

As I mentioned in another thread a common term used by hippies for those considered old fashioned was “squares”

Yes some liberals and leftists called conservatives Nazi’s or fascists even back then.

Charlie Manson and his family were hippies.

And Eric Rudolph, the terrorist who bombed gay bars and abortion clinics, was a conservative. What's your point?

Not all hippies were poetry quoting, free love advocates intent on making the world a "groovy" place to live, that's my point.
Eric Rudolph was not a hippie, why bring him into the conversation? (rhetorical question)

Most hippies were definitely not like Charles Manson and his "family."

Manson wasn't really a "hippie." He just played the part for his own purposes. He was more like an ex-con conman.

Very few antiwar protestors called their detractors "Nazis." They certainly had other names for them----but not "Nazi."

I'm aware of that, and I think you already know why I brought up Eric Rudolph. You want to make it sound like all hippies are bad because of the actions of a few homicidal maniacs who wore the hippie label? Well there are plenty of homicidal conservatives too.
