If the Palestinians have their own state, and continue to show aggression to Israel, they should be subject to whatever retribution Israel chooses to exact on Palestine.

And vice versa.

It would be the Palestinians' fault should they continue to seek to get rid of the Jewish state, no matter how it was established in 1948. It would be the Israelis fault should they start a fight, too.

If two states are established on an equal basis, all bets are off....

Most anyone who defends the Palestinians and their cause seems to think exactly that -- that Jews are a blight upon the landscape and should be 'removed'.

You must tone this down when you're less angry because you're targeting a particular religion. It's inappropriate to refer to a group of people as 'locusts".

I'm not disagreeing that Israel has a right to keep their small state, as they are far more tolerant than some of the states around them - progressive and supportive of green energy. It's a remarkable nation and should be able to live in peace with it's Palestinian neighbour.

We give all other traumatized groups a pass, Kortie. And I want to say that I realize that you must navigate a very personal tight rope, because of your Jewish roots. I don't have those same constraints placed on me. When I think of Scotland, I feel understanding. When I think the Native Americans, I feel understanding. But for some reason, when people think of the Jews, they don't offer them that same level of understanding. When a Jew says, "Never Again," they mean it. Which is different from any other race of people I have ever known. I admire that. I support the Jews doing whatever is necessary so that "Never Again" remains.

Understood, would you like me to rephrase?

If I thought that "the Jews" were a "blight," I would be a "blight"---as I am a Jew.

How would you feel if you were a Palestinian in 1948 being thrown off your land arbitrarily because some great entity wanted to establish "eminent domain" over you?

I feel like the Jews should remember the Holocaust----and they should learn from it----and they should move on, taking steps to prevent it from happening again.

I feel like the Hutu in Rwanda should remember their genocide----and they should learn from it----and they should move on, taking steps to prevent it from happening again.

Obviously, it would be ridiculous for me to have objections to the Jewish State itself. It's how it was established which is problematic.

I have an affinity for Israelis. I have friends who are Israelis. Many of them want to be friends with the Palestinians, not fight against them. The Jews and the Palestinians often hang out with each other in Israel.

Okay, say you're right. You've failed to answer my question... WHERE should they stake their next claim? Saudi Arabia? Iran? Egypt? Iraq? Where?

I'll answer my own question, because you don't have the courage to be honest with yourself. You don't think they should be anywhere!

Stop you ridiculous insults against me.

I never said Israel should cease to exist. Never, ever.

I think Israel should exist as the nation it is today. No larger or smaller for that matter.

I believe in the two-state solution.

Honestly, I'd feel like just another brick in the wall. Which is what I am. Nobody's exempt...
This happened to my mom, when I was little. The road took half of our front yard for $800, to build a 4 lane. This significantly hampered my sprinting to burn off ADHD energy and it wasn't long after that that I was put on legalized Methamphetamine. It was all down hill from there. That's life, Kortie. Life's a b***h and then we die.

I'm sorry this happened to you, Persephone.

I didn't want you to be reminded of your personal trauma.

This happened to many people in NYC when Robert Moses was building the highways.

I wish I could hug you.

In this case, I would put on kippa and tolis, face toward the Temple, and loudly recite the Shema Ysrael.

I'm lucky I am relatively detached from this----because I'm neither Israeli nor Palestinian.

It's harder for either an Israeli or a Palestinian to take an objective view of the situation.

I didn't answer it, but Fnord did. It's their right because they won. Palestinians should no longer be where they are, they were defeated. By all rights they shouldn't still be on the Gaza Strip, but they are because of Israel allowing them to do so. Kinda like the Indian Reservations, in the US. It's not pretty, but it's true. YOU have a problem with what is true, because you are so caught up in your pollyanna views of how the world should be, you can't see it for how it is. If this goes the way most battles go, the Israelis will keep moving forward and edging out the Palestinians to eventually claim the whole territory. This will happen because the Palestinians, unable and unwilling to accept defeat and relocate, will sit there and be bulldozed over.

Thanks, Kortie. It all worked out.
