In my opinion it is like that big family gathering for a birthday in LA that got busted up by the cops.
I know the local church I am familiar with are like family. It's nearly 80 years old. Elderly members have been attening it since they were born. Easter is an important time to them as a church family. Now they did not get together for Easter as far as I know. But I am sure they badly wanted to. The church expects a time when gathering will become illegal like it is in China. So that is why there is natural opposition and even defiance to being told they can't. The level of prejudice I see progressives level at the Christians is the same as Islamaphobia. It's full of the same kind of stereotyping and ignorance.
I don't agree with their religion, that is no secret. But the reason I don't want them to gather is because they will get sick and could get other people sick. I am not looking at it like 'oh what a great way to kill their faith' but its seriously unsafe for large crowds with a lot of elderely members to gather. Like I want those people to stay safe, they don't need to gather in church to keep their faith or whatever so its sh***y for any church to be encouraging in person worship at least if they care about their congregation. Everyone has a right to practice their religion and worship the way they choose so long as it's not hurting anything, but in a pandemic gathering in church settings is dangerous.
I mean even in their own scriptures if I recall there was a bit about how you don't need a physical church or gathering, you just have to have the faith. So if its more dangerous to go to church congregations should be encouraging that passage...like its not the building or gathered congregation that matters, its the faith they have inside. I don't follow the beliefs anymore but even within the beliefs there are passages they could talk about that could encourage worshiping outside of church rather than gathering and risking their health. Like they don't need to physically go to church to maintain their christianity.
I guess my point is I am liberal yes...but I am not hoping for doom upon all the christians, its just with this pandemic if they keep gathering in church it puts them at a higher risk for getting and spreading the virus.
