I think that acting like this is a thing is ridiculous, and instances are either taken out of context or people who have know idea what they are doing. It stinks of cases of people creating strawmen to discredit the movement. BLM is not telling white people to apologize for being white, just as feminists are not telling men to apologize for being men.

Why are you acting like this is a thing?

See, that is apologizing for racism, not apologizing for being white, you are twisting it. The context the part you even underlined is about there being racism and that they think that they did not do enough to stop it, and yet you see that and think that people are apologizing for the colour of their skin.

I know that this is a loaded accusation, but I think that you are a being a bit racist by pushing this narrative that white people are being expected to feel guilty for what they are.

Once you resort to calling people racists, you've lost the debate. In other words, leave identity politics behind if you wish to have an intelligent discussion.

I'm sorry, are we no longer allowed to call a spade a spade? If you have to resort to pretending away racism you don't have an argument to make.

When it's warranted. Unfortunately, those immersed in the cult of radical leftist ideology see racists everwhere.

Godwin's law is Nazis or Hitler, which I used neither and don't think are valid here, not that it is even a hard rule when relevant. Pepe here is saying that "whites" are asking for forgiveness for being white simply for showing solidarity to groups that have been victims of racism. This is after this entire thread is based on how he would refuse to take a knee to "show contrition For white privilege".

Pretty much everyone has racial biases, some people just refuse to face theirs, and I think that reading the worst into ally actions against racism is mighty close.

Why do people freak out so much when they are confronted by their bias? It is like when my mum did a post on Facebook of a Muslim lady spitting at an officer by saying that people like them should be "sent back to their own country", where me and my brother confronted her that it was a little bit racist because she would not have made the same comment against a white person. She pretty much completely lost her mind saying "I am not like that", as if I called her a Nazi. Sure racist has became a word treated like it is just the dirtiest word, and thus accusing someone of having some racist beliefs is as equal a calling them a rapist, but being a racist is actually pretty common. If you are against "certain types of immigrants", then you are probably a racist, doesn't mean you are a kill all coloured folk racist, but own up to it and stop acting as if everyone who wants to fix racial issues is ridiculous.

Jesus (supposedly) washed the feet of the common man to show his humility. If you are religious yourself, then you should find nothing wrong white cops washing the feet of black faith leaders, unless you think that there is no reason why "white police officers" should need to show humility to black faith leaders. I imagine if otherwise we can say the practice of feet washing is ridiculous, I could just make fun of all the other posts in this section talking about Sky Daddy, which I don't because I show a courtesy to people and their religious beliefs.

Unfortunately those who benefit from white supremacist seem obsessed with pretending it doesn't exist, but their attempts at gaslighting are nothing more than that.

Because racists are everywhere.

Every person that felt uncomfortable because they saw a black man walking their way. The guy that made a joke about Asians being good at maths. The uncle that once made an Irish man joke. The kid that did an awful Chinese accent. The ones that got angry over Ariel being played by a black woman. The mothers that looked at a woman wearing a headscarf and thought that they were up to something.

Everyone has racial biases, even I do. But some people don't actively challenge their own bias, or have it to such a degree that it can affect their actions. And there are those that just continue to turn a blind eye to the racial problems that still exist today, and feel compelled to accept a spin of narratives that don't help on fixing problems. And that includes every single person that criticized Colin Kaepernick for taking a knee for a cause that would have saved so many innocent lives.

I don't believe there's anybody fitting that description in this thread. Your perception is vastly different from mine. I just see playing the race card at every turn as an overused tactic that lowers the level of the conversation, and pretty much creates an environment that stifles free exchange of ideas.

For the record, I am full support of those who take knee during the National Anthem.

Do you agree that the white people that took a knee in support for black people, who have been the victims of racism, were "apologizing for being white"?

You and I have both benefited from it at times whether we realized it or not.

People who become hysterical when racism is brought up are responsible for what you describe. Adopting their technique of just dismissing claims of racism out of hand will make it hard to tell that you're not one of them. Instead of pulling out some childish dismissal, perhaps you should ask the poster to give more detail. Bradleigh seems quite willing to support and expand upon his points, he's not the one attempting to stifle free exchange of ideas. That would be the guy who's insisting because his opponent said the word racism that he's already 'the winner'.

Why would anyone do that? I can't think of anything more patently absurd.

I think that's one of those symbolic gestures entees are so big on. Logically speaking, you're not wrong. It accomplishes literally nothing and it can only possibly accomplish sending a small signal that one has let their attitudes change, which of course isn't the same as actually changing one's attitudes.

Well, that is what Pepe said, he called exactly that as white people apologizing for being white. Followed by acting like a religious practice for humility was absurd for... he did not say, but you seemed to think it made him win.
