1683, September 12...Battle of Vienna.

Approximately 150,000 Ottoman troops had besieged Vienna and its 16,000 soldiers and volunteers, along with an unknown number of civilians, for 60 days before the Holy Roman Empire's combined army (around 74,000 troops) arrive to break the siege, leading to the largest cavalry charge in history and the end of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Europe.

Robert E. Howard had written a great story about the siege of Vienna called, The Shadow Of The Vulture.
