Can Someone Be Mixed Race But Share The Same Colour Skin?

I remember when I first started to apply for jobs, I had no idea what box to tick for my nationality so I was told to select white. I have very little Native in me so I would be white.
I wonder why in the first place there is such a box in a job application form. To be able to discriminate before you even see the person?

Why, yes!
I can have lighter and darker shades of skin.
And I'm neither known of white nor black in heritage.
Heritage says I'm vaguely brown and can appear to be otherwise.

I might be racist because I am white and I might accidently say racist things in real life because when I try not to say something I accidently say it. I have a few black friends who.. Well. The strange thing is that because of faceblindness, I don't notice skin colour so much... But due to the discrimination laws is it best not to have black or other skin colour friends incase I say the wrong thing and accidently offend them? But I like them. They are lovely people. What should I do?
Oh I did that once to a passenger on a train I was working. It was a dark winters evening and an absolutely beautiful black skinned lady came onto my train. We rarely had people with black skin and I was admiring her skin colour as to this day, I have never seen someone who had such a dark skin colour. But then I had to go and check her train ticket, and as I was nurvous, I looked out the window to think of something to start a conversation and I said "It's a dark night out there". I tried to correct myself and I said "I mean black"... She was soo shocked and offended. But whatever I tried to say it all came out wrong. I said "I am sorry". When I left her I was holding my hand over my mouth so I would not talk.
I don't try to be racist. It just happens by accident.
My Dad was the same. We used to live in the village and as our house had land, we had lots of neighbours, and some new people had moved in and they were Germans. A gentleman and his Mum. Now my Mum invited them over and told my Dad "Whatever you say don't mention the war!" They came over and what were the first words my Dad said trying not to mention the war?"
"We don't hold the war against you!" My Dad was just like Bazil Fawlty in the TV program Fawlty Towers! Haha! But he could not help it. If my Mum had not mentioned it, it would not have been on his mind and it would not have slipped out!
Oh. Anothet thing my Dad did which was funny. My Mum would tell him off for swearing, so he decided to swear in German as he saw the old war films and learnt a German swear word. This was before the Germans moved next door to where we lived. Then after they moved my Dad was out in the garden and he did something which made him swear, and the elderly German lady said "What did you say?" My poor Dad didn't think! He was embarissed! Haha!

Haha MG I can just imagine you on the train! I love the episode of Fawlty Towers with the Germans when Basil holds his finger on his upper lip and starts Goose-stepping round the dining room!
