What he predicted was the end result of several decades of neoliberalism and the complete corporate takeover of the state. That allowed the perfect environment for the rise of radical nationalism and a demagogue like Trump.
"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all of the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; [...] " -- Carl Sagan (1934-1996), in February of 1996.I see no mention of "neoliberalism" or the "complete takeover of the State".
Indeed the only person who knows for sure what VegetableMan meant is VegetableMan himself. I'm just making a guess here that might help clear up a misunderstanding between you and him. But we would need VegetableMan's own input as to whether I guessed correctly.

That's an unfortunate tendency of many people, yes, but what is its relevance to what we are talking about now?
Mainly what I was talking about was different and conflicting definitions of the word "liberalism," as used in different contexts by different people. See my complete previous post for details.

Actually I think Fnord is the one who got confused. I think VegetableMan was (most likely) referring to the former, whereas Fnord appears to have assumed he was referring to the latter.

I know precisely what the word "neoliberalism" means and I use it accurately.
Boy, could you be more insulting?
By the way, it looks like we are in agreement.

I'll admit that human like creatures evolving independently is an almost impossible coincide. Unless the universe is infinitely large that is.
And why are the people in charge of the galaxy all white humans? It's almost like he didn't notice the galaxy was ruled by a racist empire.

That's the right in a nutshell.
