They are at the time of the execution. The very thing of strapping an inmate to a gurney, renders the inmate defenseless.

If you ask an executioner the same question, you will get the same answer.
Can you provide any evidence to these claims?

Being for the death penalty is not enough to make someone classifiable as "evil".

Andy Rooney said "I am against the death penalty, but there are some people I read about in the news that I could just kill". LIke him I lean toward being against the death penalty, but I cant say that l disown and lack all sympathy for folks who support it.

I'm starting to agree with the OP... The majority of Americans in this country really are becoming a bunch of collective narcissists and sadists with no sense of empathy or compassion. History teaches that every time this kind of thing happens in a country it never ends well.

I guess I'm in the minority of Americans who realize this.

A poll from the Pew Research Center released in June suggested that 60% of US adults favoured the death penalty, though nearly 80% believed there was some risk that an innocent person could be put to death.

Logical deduction is as follows:

1. The majority favours DP.
2. The majority don't care about innocent being put to death, even though they know the risk.

No. 2 is evil because you are in favour of executing an innocent (it is is evil to punish an innocent). Therefore, the logical conclusion must be that the majority (no. 1) are evil.

Most people are emotionalists rather than rationalists.
Studies have verified this.
However,
Based on what I have seen, there is a disproportionate number of emotionalists, in America. 8)

It's hard to find good data on worldwide opinion but it seems that in 2014 52.5% of Australians favored the death penalty for terrorism, which I suspect is the sort of crime for which the Americans participating in the poll you cite have in mind. I have no idea how things might have changed since

Small majority of Australians favour the death penalty for deadly terrorist acts in Australia

I'll bet a substantial percentage of French people would not run out and demonstrate against a death penalty for the Bataclan terrorists, were that possible. And I'll bet a lot of Swedish people would also sympathize.

a good moment to think of the Afghans and Iraqis who are still being held in Guantamo without trial, and of -what the US drone pilots call "fun sized terrorists" in the videos leaked by Chelsea Manning. - fun sized terrorists is a phrase they use when shooting at a group of people, clearly including children.
ah, yes. Manning and Assange... who are being destroyed for trying to educate the public about what counts as terrorists, fun sized or other.

I think most people think of suicide bombers wgen they think of terrorists, and I'm all for a death penalty for successful suicide bombers, but I also think most Americans aren't in the slughtest bit educated about "terrorism", and who gets killed, without trial, by their government.
They think their government is too incapable to handle their taxes, but are trusting it with decisions of life and death. ...

Depends on which Americans you're talking about, I don't trust my government to pave the streets without graft, incompetence, and malice.

This is close to my position, I believe some people need killing, but I don't trust our justice system to pick which ones, let alone carry out the sentence correctly. Even if I think some criminals deserve to die, I've seen too many death row exonerations and too many botched executions to support the death penalty.
