Once I was browsing the books at the thrift store and an older gent walked up to me and said, “The books you want are over here.” He pointed at the section that had Harlequin Romances.
Ugh, just ugh.

And a year later he published his own book titled I Was a Self-Made Comedian.

Yeah, why would he assume that’s what all women read.
If there was a book deserving of burning , it’s a Harlequin Romance.They might make a decent bonfire, that’s all they are good for.

The only romance books worth reading were by Jane Austen. When you actually attract men to read a romance book and admit it, you know it's good.

I don't read romance books. So I wouldn't know anything about that genre.

I know that. I mean I don't understand why it's on the list. Then again, a lot of readers assume literature is stuff people only read because they have to, since that's how they feel.

I would need to load him up and bring him home for that, too much effort.

I've read Harry Potter long before the JK Rowling incident. I have read Of Mice and men in high school, what is wrong with that book BTW?

One book they failed to mention that was controversial is "To train a Child." I hear so much controversaries about the book and I read it and didn't see anything about starving your child and forcing them to live outside as abusers claimed and only thing they mentioned was switch to mean a stick or a paddle and spanking and when they kept mentioning training your kid, they meant being consistent and following through what you tell your kid and this is something universal in parenting. We don't call it training, we call it being consistent. I felt they were just preaching to the choir on parenting but they were using different wording. Also these parents that wrote this book are not child experts and they do not have Ph D and they are not child therapists nor child specialists nor social workers, these are just two people that are religious that talked about how they raised their kids and telling you how to parent your kid and it was a self published book. Just amazing how much lies there are on this book because of misinterpretations and word twisting people do. People will look at the words and not pay attention to any context and get emotional about it and make stuff up about the book. But I will agree they did mention spanking too many times and "switches." I can imagine people got emotional about it and turned it into something else and started to make stuff up what the book said also which is why I don't believe anything people say anymore about others and I would rather see for myself and form my own opinion which is what I did by buying this book.

Literature is way more clever, way more entertaining & way more meaningful than most things on television.

People watch television because it is easier to watch television.

Books also smell good, the library smell.
I always keep one in my truck in case I get stuck somewhere and get bored.
No way am I touching a magazine in an office.Probably coated and crawling with germs, so I read my book which only has my germs on it.

So I end up having to watch an Alex Jones vid in the library and I was reminded of my post in this thread where I say I would read mien kamp for research but would not be quick to pull out a copy at starbucks.
