Did God explain to him why God created tapeworms?

I had tried something like that myself but it just drove me insane.

It also drove the guy insane, so much so that he believed he was hearing the voice of god.

I thought it took 40 days
And a load of hallucinations
Before you realise
You yourself are god.

Or take the chemical path and do it all in a day.

I tried a seven day silent retreat once years ago. On the third day, I was annoyed by all the people around me not very silent and so after lunch I went for a walk to a river nearby and it said to me: there's nothing here they can teach you that I can't teach you better, and I felt that was the truth, so I left.

The thing is I haven't been listening to rivers too often after that.

I'm not sure what percentage of that post is a joke  could be 100% or the last 50% .

I talk to myself all the time. If I can only be sure of the fact that I am an entity (in a Cartesian sense), maybe I’m Goddess so maybe talking to myself counts.

I talk to myself.

I know I'm not God :)

I believe more in "I am....therefore I think" than in "I think.....therefore I am."

You can’t know that I’m not God. (I prefer Goddess.)

I can explain it. One day I got bored and decided: why not? That seemed like an enjoyable thing to do with a tiny fragment of eternity.

But why THAT?

What "purpose" do tape worms serve?

I mean...one might be tempted to think that mosquitos serve no purpose. They just fly around, suck blood, and spread malaria, and yellow fever. But if you give it a moments thought you realize that if we got rid of mosquitos we would threaten the existence of many species of song birds, bats, and dragonflies, and damselflies, that depend upon mosquitos for food. But I dont know of any equivalent part of the ecology that depends upon tapeworms.

So again...God...why did you create tapeworms?

My friend just told me about the TV show.

My beliefs have changed from wanting to please God to relying on faith instead of religious works.
Self-isolating for 3 days certainly seems like religious works and trying to please God...which is impossible. So I think I might just get the same results as last time (being made crazy) if I tried again. Why people get different results is impossible for me to know.

I might order the DVD and just check out this whole 'praying for ages' thing but only MAYBE.
The fact that it would cost 25 quid to get started is already making it seem dodgy for me to do it.

The best conversations I personally have had with God were all after I started doing Two way prayer, which is actually an old way of praying (back in the 1940s anyhow) that came out of the same church that AA came from.

Doesn't require three days, any expenditure of money at all, and watching the videos on that website are totally optional! Not a works thing either, which I also don't like, ugh.

I also know first-hand many other people who use it. Doesn't have to change much about the way you pray at all, just a way that others have found helpful. It as a method is also used by people of other denominations and faiths, and even some agnostics, despite originally coming from the Oxford Group.

Don't know if it would work for an atheist, got any volunteers here to try?

Give it a go for a few days, or the recommended 30, up to you; still easier than three days of silence, that would drive me spare too.

Note: I have a vague sense it mentions meditation, but remember that way back in the 1940's we didn't have the eastern influence or much other mystic idea of meditation that is more common today. Back then it simply meant more of a pause from activity, thinking about the day gone and that ahead for a few moments.

Of course I guess if you spun that out much longer for each day of 30, the silent hours might add up to near 72 hours, but not the way I do it! :D :?

Thanks that's interesting

When I first became a Christian I did that but only got a voice in return which told me lies. I tried several times over six years and only got the lying voice.

I’m not particularly loving or rational. Sometimes I enjoy creating harmful stuff that serves no purpose. How dare you judge or question me?!?! Go fast or something. I favor people who do that sort of thing. Maybe after a few days of hunger or sensory deprivation you’ll be singing a different tune. I’m more likely to reveal myself to individuals who approach me in very specific ways.

If people are in despair, they obviously aren’t praying enough or going about it in the right way. I’m persnickety about things like that.

Oh, none of it or all of it you can decide but it's kind of sad and funny either way.
