England doesn't have written rules of how it's country is governed? :?

It is written, but strewn across a plethora of documents.
Though not codified, the UK's constitution is written in hundreds of Acts of Parliament, court cases, and in documented conventions. Its essential principles are Parliamentary sovereignty, the rule of law, democracy and internationalism.

All of which makes it very hard for ordinary people to know what's unconstitutional and what isn't. Even the "experts" don't always find it clear.

Well, that's ridiculous. Many other countries around the world have systems of government modelled after the UK system and they don't even have theirs written down.. WTF.

Yes, goldfish. All this chaos has made me think that we do need a written constitution in Britain asap!

Very timely thread here in the U.S. as we await final 2022 Midterm Election results - control of the Senate & House.

Best guess is House control will be narrow with any given party. In the event the House goes to the GOP, there are around half a dozen Republican House members who won seats in the 2022 Election, and voted on such things as to impeach Trump, and vote for Biden's gun safety legislation.

In short, these half-dozen (some say Moderate (or moderated)) GOP memebers might very-well provide that cushion to uphold the written U.S. Constitution - hence the concerns that 'Democracy is it stake' might just be lessened at least to the 2024 General Election.

Not necessarily. Australia has a written constitution, and we endured nearly a decade of what Britain's going through now. We got past it though, and I imagine the UK will too.

Still, I do think having a written constitution would still be a good idea. It's just not always an ironclad guarantee of political stability in itself. You also need some decent-calibre politicians. However, what I've been hearing about the political leaders in the current UK government hasn't been very inspiring.

You are right. Since 2010 the intelligence and talent of UK politicians has been declining. Mainly because each Prime Minister has been getting rid of anyone with intelligence and talent, and putting stupid people who suck up to the PM in the ministerial jobs. So he/she is surrounded by people who will agree with all his/her decisions and not bring up any objections.
