Chuchulainn has a point. Whenever a Christian in this forum posts anything in any thread, the thread almost immediately derails into a "lets bash the Christians" thread.

On topic: The "canals on Mars" theory was debunked in the early 1900s. And none of the Martian probes sent to map the surface have shown any canals or any other sort of regular features.

Personally, I think there's a good chance that there is life on Mars. And I think that there's a good chance that that life originated on Earth. There is a lot of material that gets blown back and forth between our two planets, and it's likely Earth microorganisms landed on Mars, perhaps millions of years past. And mutated into who-knows-what forms by now.

Higher life, however? Seriously doubtful. Mars' climate, lack of breathable atmosphere and lack of a magnetic field makes that highly unlikely.

I do know that some theories state that life on earth could have come from Mars, which, if true, would rule out the possibility of intelligent life on Mars!

Um, who do you think is responsible for building the Grand Canyon? Probably the same guys who made those canals on Mars, eh?

I hope it can be proven that there was life of some sort on Mars, so we can end this God crap already.

They'd never be allowed to admit they found life in public again then, it'd just be another instance of religious zealots in high power with-holding information and knowledge in order to keep their myth alive. Sad, because the ability to someday colonize other un-manifested worlds could be the answer to our over-population problem if we ever had the means.

Even sadder to think we think we have the right to destroy other planets/moons/whatever like we have this planet! How 'bout we quit having babies and leave Mars et al alone!

It's Michael Keaton, taken off the "Johnny Dangerously" movie poster. With a flag thrown behind him.

Maybe Michael Keaton scares you?

There are canyons on Mars that seem to show that there was once water, which tells us that there could have been life there at one point. There was a piece of debris that came from Mars and landed on Earth, that appeared to have bacteria fossils on it. However people are debating that the rock could have been tainted when it reached Earth, which was many many years ago.. I watched a documentary on it a long time ago  Sadly thats all I remember from it though.

Because people will keep having babies, it's what all animals do, it's survival of the genes. I do think people should limit how many babies a couple can have (1 or 2 kids). But at this rate we'll still be using up all our resources at an alarming rate. This is why I say that if humans are to survive long term we'll eventually have to colonize other (preferrably uninhabited) worlds to colonize and spread out, gain more resources.

Yes, snake321, unfortunately you are right. I hope we all die off before we can travel to other worlds, so to speak. Our extinction would be natural, anyway.

Unfortunately, we do not have the technology to even get to another planet, let alone terraform it.

If we can send probes there we can send people there. We have the technology, we just haven't put it together in the right configuration yet.

Just the way things work around here.

Most of the forumers are atheists and the same with the mod staff (The only mod who isn't an atheist is a maltheist, which honestly isn't that far different)

You either get used to the system or it grinds you down.

I don't think there is any such assumption, snake321.

Anyway, this, from yesterday's Telegraph, may be of interest:

This is silly and seriously detracts from the truly exciting possibility of real life having been on mars at some point, as evidenced by microbial fossils in Mars rocks, and evidence of water on the red planet. These things aren't as sexy perhaps as the thought of an ancient Martian civilization, but but they are awesome discoveries in the real universe!

lol TY!
