I suspect that Muhammad probably existed. His writings were created during his own lifetime, even if the Hadiths weren't. Also he seems more believable than Jesus. Far fewer miracles have been attributed to him and he didn't claim to be the son of a god.
I don't necessarily agree with everything he said but I think he probably existed. I could be wrong. I don't believe that he wrote the Quran while being illiterate. I think that if he wrote a book, he was probably literate. Also being an experienced merchant he probably learned how to keep proper records.

Is it evidence that Mohamed was aware of Jesus (considered him a prophet, in fact,
if we are to believe the Koran)?
Regardless, I don't think it matters much as, with any successful enterprise, it would soon have been taken over by status seekers, interested only in solidifying their own power. You can see his in even the oldest religions; that Iraqi mystic Abraham pushed for maximum procreation, intended to boost populations to make the Hierarchs ever richer and more powerful, but dressed up as an instruction from God. We're still paying the price for that today, with an ever-growing population, the biggest single cause of mankind's current problems, imposed on us through the blind faith of the Catholic Church.
As for relics, there were thousands crucified in Jesus' time, so how could anyone ever be sure they were being presented with bits of the true cross? Would anyone really have thought to preserve his foreskin?
Should we expect any genuine relics from this time, when none exist for such characters as Arthur, William Tell, Taras Bulba (the last two having now been demonstrated to be copies of previous characters in other regions) or even David (that's right; plenty of architectural) evidence for Solomon but none for David)?
I've always thought it a bit dubious, anyway, that the Israelis would have accepted such a person as king...
