I live in hope of finding an ex ski lodge going cheap. Being up in the mountains, surrounded by so much open range, really would make me happy!

This is all very well for someone in their twilight years, but for young people, big cities are where it’s at, as that’s were the most money is being made.

That sounds delightful, but I don't see anything especially American about it.

They don't have ski lodges? They sure have the global warming that's putting so many out of businesss!

I meant what's uniquely American about wanting to live in a ski lodge, either in the United States or elsewhere?

I can see how wanting to live next to a NASCAR track might be uniquely American, but I don't think that's what usually comes to mind when one hears about the "American Dream".

I think George Carlin said it best when he said they call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

I never wanted the American Dream. Life in a house with a picket fence with two kids seems a little stuffy to me. Also, when people were living the American Dream, people who were different were locked up in institutions, there was racism and people still hated Germans because of things that happened in the 30s and 40s. I wouldn't have been living the American Dream anyways, because people would have kept on telling me to go back to Germany because of my accent and I probably would have been locked away from the dream because I'm autistic, mentally ill and Transgender.
