But I dont think the world is getting worse folks. If you do, thats age showing its face in you. The world is changing. In some ways its better, in others its worse.

Before the 60s people with cancer were treated as pariahs. Can you imagine that? its not even infectious. We autistics would be institutionalized.

I was - as late as 1967 - and received about 8 or 9 ECTS (shock treatments).

My Dad (who also has AS) received shock 'treatment'. I think it did him more harm than good.

How old is he? (I am just wondering if he and I are around the same age.) In my case, all the ECTs (shock treatments) did, as best I can tell, was result in temporary memory loss. Sorry that your father's experience was more negative.

I wouldn't say the world is ending. Though it is definitely not getting better either and probably won't unless man works really hard to undo what it has done.

Dad would be coming up to his mid 50's now, He received ECT when he was a kid (I don't know how old exactly). You were pretty lucky to have suffered temporary memory loss. It seems my Dad's was more permanent. To this day he has been told of events from around the time of his treatment that he doesn't recall. As with many Aspie's, his long term memory is usually quite exceptional.

What I don't understand is the reason why he received ECT. If I remember properly, he received as a result of his depression. The theory was that a traumatic event in his life was the reason for it (hence - the memory loss). The treatment has no real positive effect.

On the positive side, I've been lead to believe that shock treatment methods have improved greatly recently and aren't as 'barbaric'. I still don't trust it though.
