I know.

Quote:
Study pits liberal brains against conservative brains ...

Researchers at New York University examined how a cue was processed in the anterior cingulate cortex of 43 college students. By monitoring brain activity, they were able to see differences in the way that self-described liberals and conservatives avoided a habitual -- but inappropriate -- response.

"Say you drive home from work the same way every day, but one day there's a detour and you need to override your autopilot," David Amodio, the researcher who carried out the study, tells the Chicago Tribune. "Most people function just fine. But there's a little variability in how sensitive people are to the cue that they need to change their current course."

In the end, the liberals proved to be more flexible.

Johnnie is pwn3d!! ! :D

yeah I'm real hurt considering the economic plight of the liberal support base compared to the wealth of the conservitives. Remove the inner city ghetto vote and dems would have no power base, they can only win an election to keep their mooch butts in power by buying the votes of ghetto dwellers. A study performed by the liberal media person is far from anything to wet your pants over when their is also no proof the POS didn't fudge the results.

Some how these comments are similar to the smear tactics used by the worst of the politicos from all points on the political spectrum. Do you really want to be like them?

LOL. Good on you monty!

I don't feel less free to speak my mind, but that's not to say I feel particularly free. I live in an area of Australia that's mostly conservative (to the point of being intolerant) and understandably, I have to keep my trap shut at times to avoid an argument. On a national level, I do feel that the actions of the previous government impeded on the populations freedoms, but to a lesser degree than in the U.S.

How the hell are you people cheering on monty? All he did was link to an utterly discredited partisan study that was done by liberals with an agenda and had hand-picked results.

I'm not allowed to link to Zombietime because it has a few non-pornographic images of naked people on it (or because Alex knows the only way to debate me is to silence me, hence all the locked topics and repeated bannings), but if you look on there, you can find a study that proves that conservatives perform better on Standard Placement Tests than liberals.

Only the people who are stupid think we are losing rights. And ironically they're the same ones who are the most opposed to freedom of speech. These are the people that wail about racism still existing and then call Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell "house negros". These are the people who complain about the government silencing them while waving upside-down American Flags and propaganda posters supporting HamAss and the Hezbos.

As for those Christians feeling oppressed, how else do you expect them to respond to statements like "I don't think we should have a Christmas concert at the elementary school anymore. Let's just rename it the 'Winter Concert' and make it non-denominitional, and then have a MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR day FESTIVAL in February instead of celebrating Lincoln and Washington's birthdays!".

It seems that about two thirds of us don't feel as free as they used to. Are they stupid?

Yes, I actually explained in depth as to why people who feel less free are stupid in my previous post - and their incredible hypocricy, as they're the biggest opponents of free speech in America.

To put it very simply - if you can defecate on the American flag, support America's enemies openly, and never once be forced to answer to the law - you have near absolute freedom of speech, both actual and symbolic.

To call people who disagree with you stupid seems to be an attempt to make them feel less free to speak their mind.

That was the study cited in the first post of this thread ... the original study found that fundamentalists and people opposed to abortion felt less free. That conclusion was transformed to 'Liberal Intolerance' which was easy to deconstruct.

Let me rephrase then.

I'm not calling anyone stupid.

I'm calling a thing stupid.

That thing being "burning the flag while complaining about not having free speech".

And if you think me calling that particular kind of free speech stupid is against freedom, you should try living half a century ago. In other words, you have MORE freedoms now, because back in the good old days that wouldn't be tolerated socially by your fellow Americans.

Well, don't know any flag burners.

So...because we can burn the flag, but get tossed into Gitmo for speaking our minds about other things, we have complete free speech and shouldn't complain?

I'm having a little trouble doing your version of math.

*facepalm*

Who has been thrown into Gitmo for 'speaking their minds'?

The above post is a perfect example of stupidity.

I think you're both stretching things a bit in opposite directions. :)

I'm not stretching anything.

All these "oppressed" liberals say things like 'well we get thrown in gitmo for speaking our minds' when that's, to put it politely, patent nonsense. Utterly, completely, absolutely untrue.

I DARE fabshelly to give me one example of a liberal being thrown in Gitmo for 'speaking his mind'.

Who's an oppressed liberal?

I was using the term mockingly, hence the quotations around the word.

They consider themselves oppressed when they're absolutely not.

Well, if I read the article correctly, it seems that more people who feel they hold a conservative view responded that they don't feel as free to speak their mind as they used to.
